MEANING AND CONCEPT OF
CURRICULUM:

Curriculum refers to the totality of activity and


achieve the objectives of education.

 A curriculum is the instructional and educative


Programme, through which the pupil will achieve
their goals, ideals and aspirations of life.

 Curriculum is the blue print or plan of the school


that includes the experiences for the learner to
have.

 It provides formal and informal contacts between


teachers and pupils in educational institutions the
curriculum touch the whole life of students at all

 The nursing education programme offered by the


school keep pace with the scientific and

COMPONENTS
 Nursing curriculum requires to draw its
components :-

 The natural science like biology , microbiology, bio-


physics, chemistry, pharmacology, etc. Gives the
information about the facts and principles.

 Professional nursing areas where by the student


nurse is responsible to learn and practice nursing
subjects like fundamental of nursing, midwifery,
community health nursing, paediatric nursing and
different branches of nursing.

LEVELS OF CURRICULUM PLANNING

 Curriculum divided into 3 levels :

SOCIETAL CURRICULUM

INSTITUTIONAL CURRICULAM

INSTRUCTIONAL CURRICULUM
SOCIETAL CURRICULUM

 The curriculum which is planned for a large group


or class of students.

It is planned by groups outside of an educational


institution, e.g. National league for nursing .

 Curriculum planning at the societal level can be


helpful to schools, through stimulating, initiating, and
supporting curriculum studies.
A . THE INSTITUTIONAL CURRICULUM

 It is planned by faculty for a clearly identified group


of students who will spend a specified time period
in a particular institution.

 The curriculum planned at the broad base of facts,


principles, understanding, skills habits, attitudes and
appreciations that are require to prepare the
student to function as a modern professional nurse
in a democratic society.

 It requires a high degree of self discipline ,integrity
of personal character and an ability to cooperate
with others.

 Its consist of content (subject matter and learning


activities) planed day by day and week by week by a
particular teacher for a particular group of students.

 It may serve as a valuable guide to the teacher and


the students in the development of course.

 Essential facts, information, concepts, meanings,
principles.

 Activities that is necessary for the developments of


skills, habits, attitude, ideals and appreciations.

 Methods that is useful in teachings, supervising,


guiding and evaluating results
B. INSTRUCTIONAL CURRICULUM

 All the content planned by the teacher experienced


by the students to achieve the desired educational
objectives.
 Nursing curriculum comprises not only subject
matter but also activities, method, classroom
organization, clinical experience.
 The curriculum consists of the tools which the
teacher may use to change in the behaviour of the
student.

three fields

 Philosophy

 Psychology
PHILOSOPHICAL DETERMINANT OF
CURRICULUM

Philosophy is a powerful factor of education


deciding the contents and methods.

 It aims all round development of the individual.


 It is based on the philosophy of the nation.
 It develops the desired ideals of life in the
youngsters.

cultural values, social norms and moral beliefs.

 It helps in the development of personal and national


character.
SOCIOLOGICAL DETERMINANTS OF
CURRICULUM
School are the social institutions specially set up for
the preservation transmission of culture by the
society.

School seek to discharge this function through the


curriculum.

PSYCHOLOGICAL DETERMINANTS OF
CURRICULLAM

 Curriculum should be child centred ,accordance


with the mental development of the learner.

 Knowledge of growth and development.


 Intelligence, development capacities.
 Interest of the learner.
Model of curriculum

PERSONAL MODELS

 These models are developed by counsellors and


therapists. It develop an integrated, confident and
competent personality. It help each person to take
responsibility for his own development.

 To help the students to understand them selves and


their goals.

 It stimulates individual creativity and self expression

 It help students to understand themselves more


fully.

 It increase the students creativity and playfulness.

 It help increase the students openness to new


experience.
SOCIAL MODEL:
 The social models of teaching includes :Group
investigation, role playing and social simulation.
 To help students learn to work together, to identify
and solve problems, either academic or social
nature.
 To increase the ability in development of social
skills, group organization, problem identification.

To develop skills in human relations.


 To become aware of personal and social values.
STRESS REDUCTION MODEL :

 It aims reduction of stress and anxiety in social


situation and enhance the relaxation of body and
mind.

 INDUCTIVE MODEL :
It is a process the information gathered through the
inductive thinking. It leads the students through the
process of inquiry. The students collect and analyse
their data and form concepts about it.
DEDUCTIVE MODEL

 It provide the students with frame works mastering


subject matter and present the material to them.

 CONCEPT ATTAINMENT MODEL:

 It consists of developing concepts through inductive


reasoning.
