ANIMAL DEVELOPMENT

Dollera, Glister Diadem A. & Guarin, Gleenice Ann D.

3 MAJOR PHASES OF ANIMAL
DEVELOPMENT

Pre-Embryonic Development

Embryonic Development

Post-Embryonic Development
PRE- EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT
• Ranges from Gametogenesis to Fertilization.
• Gametogenesis- program the development of embryo; Oogenesis-
differentiates egg cell into vegetal hemisphere and animal hemisphere.

• Fertilization-
(pic of Amphimixis)—the nucleus of egg and sperm combine
(Pic of Parthenogenesis)—no amphimixis
EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT
Cell Division and
Morphogenesis Differentiation
Growth

Cleavage, Gastrulation, Organogenesis, and Histological Differentiation comprise

the stages of embryonic development.
POST EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT
• Occurs after Parturition

Sexual
Growth
Maturity
OBJECTIVES:
• Describe the Stages of Development of the toad and chick embryo.
• Identify the parts of the embryo at each stage of development
• Trace the fate of the different embryonic structures through
development
• Identify and give functions at each extra-embryonic membranes
associated with the duck embryo
• Compare the various metamorphosis in the toad and insects
A. THE TOAD EMBRYO
• 1. Cleavage
A period of cell
division without growth.

• 2. Gastrulation
Mass movement of cell
resulting in the transformation
from blastula to gastrula
A. THE TOAD EMBRYO
B. THE CHICK EMBRYO
• 1. Gastrulation
• 2. Organogenesis.
• 3. Histological Differentiation
C. EXTRA-EMBRYONIC
MEMBRANES
D. METAMORPHOSIS
