Introduction
Recently, mobile communications and wireless has experienced an
extraordinary development. Currently, mobile wireless networks
have two variations:
 Networks with fixed and wired gateways.
 Infrastructure-less mobile network.
MANET is a most capable and quickly growing network which is
depended on a self-organized and quickly arranged network. It is
more susceptible than wired network because of dynamic topology,
threats from compromised nodes inside the network, scalability,
mobile nodes, partial physical security, and not have of centralized
management. Due to these complexities MANET offers many
challenges to TCP protocol which aims at providing connection
among a number of mobile nodes

Study and Review of Literature
 In 2013 H Paul and Priyanka Sarkar [7], presented a review on high Speed TCP
Variations in Wireless Mobile Networks, authors evaluated and implemented the
Congestion control techniques in TCP SACK and addition of TCP Reno’s
congestion control approaches.

 In 2012 Henock Mulugeta et al. [15] compared the capacity of TCP variantions
over routing protocols. They estimates that the AODV accomplished the maximum
throughput for all the TCP variations and TCP Newreno gives much higher
throughput

Study and Review of Literature Contd….
 In 2011 Noor Mast et al. [1], conducted a survey in the field of Wireless Ad-
hoc Networks focusing on the techniques recommended for performance
enhancement of TCP in wireless Ad- hoc Networks

 In 2010 Mohit and K. C. Shet et al. [16], computed the performance of TCP
variantions in static and Mobile Ad-hoc Networks as well as routing protocols.

Problem Outline
 Testing start with generating the test cases, under which particular
application’s functionality has been checked.

 During discussion it has been observed that testing start with generating
the test cases, under which particular application’s functionality has been
checked. But, problem occurs with large number of test cases.

 To find optimized test cases in least time.

Problem Identification & Objective

Problem Identification:
In MANETs, When TCP is employed as transport protocol, like a fall in performance
is fairly expected since packets forwarded to a non-valid route are all misplaced.
Particularly, TCP is the extensively employed protocol, it is accountable to
provides reliable end to end and in order send of data transmission to the TCP
recipient. If TCP is employed without any change in MANET, there will be a fall
in the throughput of the connection due to the following causes:

. In MANET nodes are mobile and mobility pattern of the nodes can be characterized
using the three aspects as Speed, Pause Time, and Direction.

Objectives:
 Study, identify and evaluating a variety of performance matrices like
throughput, PDR and node to node delay which affect the performance
of TCP variations.

 Compare the performance of TCPreno and TCPnewreno over routing

protocol in MANET on different speed, pause time and number of
nodes using NS-2 to find out and compare the impact of variation in
mobility patterns and varying network size. The node’s mobility is
modeled using arbitrary Waypoint Mobility Model.

Research Methodology
Research methodology is a systematic and scientific way o solve a problem
or to gain answer of some question. The objective of this research is to
find out which TCP variant out of TCPreno and TCPnewreno better
facilitates the working of MANET by comparing the impact of variation in
mobility pattern and the size of network on the performance of AODV
routing protocol of MANET. To gain insight into the topic or to obtain
detailed understanding of the TCPreno or TCPnewreno and TCP issues
associated with MANET qualitative research approach is used, as
attitudes and opinions of various previous researchers are collected for it.
A simulation based quantitative technique is used for the creating a
simulation environment for analyzing the performance of TCPreno and
TCPnewreno over routing protocol in this environment. This research work
has been carried out as an academic activity.

Ad-Hoc-Networks

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET)
Host movement frequent
Topology change frequent

B

No cellular infrastructure. Multi-hop wireless links.

Data must be routed via intermediate nodes.
Why Ad Hoc Networks ?

 Setting up of fixed access points and backbone infrastructure is not

always viable
Infrastructure may not be present in a disaster area or war zone
Infrastructure may not be practical for short-range radios; Bluetooth
(range ~ 10m)

 Ad hoc networks:
Do not need backbone infrastructure support
Are easy to deploy
Useful when infrastructure is absent, destroyed or impractical
