Introduction about road transportation
ROAD:
Pavement or a road is an open, generally public way for the passage
of vehicles , peoples, and animals.

 For the purpose of management and administration, roads in India are

divided into the following five categories
1.National Highway(NH)
2.State Highways(SH)
3.Major District Roads(MDR)
4.Other District Road(ODR)
5.Village Roads(VR)
TYPES OF PAVEMENTS
The pavements can be classified based on the structural performance into two
1. Flexible pavements.
2. Rigid pavements.
Components of flexible pavement:

 TESTS ON ROAD CONSTRUCTION:
1. FIELD DENSITY TEST BY SAND REPLACEMENT METHOD
(IS: 2720-PART-28)
The dry density of the compacted soil or pavement material is a common
measure of the amount of the compaction achieved during the construction.
Knowing the field density and field moisture content , the dry density is
calculated .Therefore field density test is importance as a field control test for the
compaction of soil or any other pavement layer.

FIG9: Digging 15cm of morrum FIG10: Reading of moisture

with density plate. content in RMM.
2.DETERMINATION OF IN-SUIT DENSITY BY CORE CUTTER
METHOD
This method is only used on fine-grained cohesive soils which do not
contain stones. It is ,therefore, very useful for control of earthworks and
subgrade materials but is not suitable for coarse grained pavement materials.
The test involves jacking or hammering a steel cylinder of known mass and
volume into the soil, excavating it and finding the mass of soil contained in
the cylinder.

CONCLUSION
As discussed above most road projects today involve modifications to exiting
roadways and the planning, operation and maintenance of such projects often are
opportunities for improving conditions.
As we gone to internship, we visited the construction of highway work in that we
learnt about embankment, flied test procedure. Then we visited another highway
construction work in that we learnt GSB, WMM layer work, and we know the test
conducted for these layers. Third we visited an school building in that site RCC
slab construction process in running, so we test the slump test. Another school
building, we only observe excavation and footing works.
At last we visited one collage building, in this already college is 1st floor, so
government increase the building to 3rd floor, so we just observe the complete
college like beam, column, walls.
