Spider – Server “as Service”
 Spider’s main Service is “SpiderServer”
[Secondary Service is “Spider Data Dispatcher” (don’t care)]
 Set to start automatically, therefore launched with Windows
when computer is started
 Thus NO need to be logged into Windows!
 Runs under “Local System” (default) or specific Windows
user account
• Local System account cannot write to network drives
• User account provides same rights as selected user
 Service Properties can be configured under:
• Control Panel – Administrative Tools – Services
• Administrator privileges required to modify

Spider – Database and GUI Client
 Open Access Database Concept
• Multiple components can access simultaneously
• Open for future expansion

 GUI Client runs as a separate application

• provides already the remote operation interface
• can be closed without stopping Spider Server operation
• multiple GUI clients can be logged into one Spider
Server
• multiple GUI clients can be open on one computer

Spider – User Concept
 Two Levels of User Access
• Spider Administrator
• Spider Viewer

 User level is defined at the server site, not at the client site

 Type of current user level shown in Spider GUI status bar

 Authentification of Users / User Level

• Done via Windows User Mangement
• Compares User Name of remote client with users listed
in Spider Administrators user group
• No password verification, only name must be correct!

Page 14
Spider – User “Spider Administrators”
 Management
• During the installation of Spider
• Windows User Group “Spider Administrator”created
• Current Windows user added by default
• More users can be added manually using Window User
management (required full Windows Administrator rights)

 Access Rights
• Full Read/Write/Modify/Delete
• Upload Settings, Start/Stop operations
• …just everything…!

Page 15
Spider – User “Spider Viewer”
 Management
• No specific management required for “Spider Viewer”
• No specific user group required
• Any user that has access to the Spider Server PC can
log in with a Spider Client

 Access Rights
• Read/View Only
• NONE Upload Settings, Start/Stop operations

Page 16
Spider – Protection of components
 These components are separately protected:
• Additional Site/Sensor connections
(One is standard!)
• FTP product push
• Event notification by NetSend or Email
 Protection is done at the Spider Server
 Spider Client GUI does not need a dongle
 Spider Client GUI always allows access to components
enabled on dongle that is connected at the Server Site
 Thus depending to whish server the client connects,
different features can be available
