Introduction
• Logistics is nothing but the management of the
movement of materials, information and other
resources between two points, i.e. from the point
of inception to the point of consumption, to
conform to the requirements of the customers
and the organization. Logistics management
determines the procurement, storage and
transportation of goods and material to their
ultimate destination. Logistics activities include
inbound logistics or outbound logistics.
INDUSTRY PROFILE
• The automotive industry began in the 1860’s with
hundreds of manufacturers that pioneered the horseless
carriage.
• The automotive industry is a wide range of companies
and organizations involved in the design, development,
manufacturing, marketing, and selling of motor
vehicles, some of them are called automakers.
• It is one of the world's most important economic sectors
by revenue.
• In 1929, before the Great Depression, the world had
32,028,500 automobiles in use, and the U.S. automobile
industry produced over 90% of them.
