INTRODUCTION
 Suspended Railway System - light weight coaches

 Tramway category - Constitution of India Art 366(20)

 Operates parallel to existing roads within limits -

excluded from IRA

 It is pollution free, economical, air conditioned travel

Sky Bus Metro
What is Sky Bus?
 A unit mass transit system which can be put up in any
congested or crowded city within two years for ease
and safe transportation, without loss of time.
Description:
 Heavy 52 / 60 kg/m rails,
 8m x 2m box enclosure,
 Supported by 1 m dia. columns (15m c/c),
 Never collide or capsize.

Capacity:
 Can carry 18000 pphpd - 72000pphpd,
 Can shift 20 ft containers for corner to corner.
COMPONENTS
 Sky Way

 Sky Bogie

 Sky Coach

 Sky Station

 Traverser Arrangements
Sky Way:
 Path in which Sky Bus travels,
 Includes concrete box - supported by piers,
 Two rails - appropriately fixed - to guide bus.
Sky Way
Sky Bogie:
 Standard two axle bogies,
 Speed of 100 kmph ( max. 160 kmph),
 Linear induction motors - to be driven,
 Disc and emergency brakes.
Arrangement of Bogies and
Coaches:
Sky Coaches:
 Doubled walled shells - wide large windows,
 Air - conditioned travel - automatic doors,
 Audio - visual information - passengers,
 2m x 2m spaced - easy entry and exit.
Sky Coaches
Sky Stations:
 Smaller area consumption,
 Fully computerized,
 Lifted 5.5 - 6m above G.L.
Sky Station
Traverse Arrangements:
 Provided shifting routes of sky buses.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
 A railway coach is run on the track. Also the provided
railway wheel are made to run on the track. Thereafter,
the coach which is firmly attached on the under frame
will cover the concrete box resulting the carrying of
coach.
Why Sky Bus saves 50% - 75% in cost ?

 Conventional railway carry more steel and dead load

instead of people.

 The capital cost per km is Rs. 50 crores.

 The energy in Sky bus, is used to carry more people

than in Metro Rails, which carry more dead load.
Test Track At Goa
 Length: 1.6 km
 Max. test speed ( kmph): 100

 Steepest gradient: 1 in 50

 Radius of sharpest curve: 105 m

 Radius of flatter curve: 875 m

 Max. radius of vertical curve: 3375 m

Test Track At Goa
Current Scenario:
 Sky bus system on a 9.8 km stretch between Andheri
and Ghatkopar.

 Construction of Sky bus network between Muthialpet

in North Chennai to Tippet in West - via Koyambedu
and Mahabalipuram of 45 km.
Advantages
 No pollution
 Safety
 Low capital and running cost
 No demolition
 Low maintenance cost
 No problem of traffic jams
 Luxury comfort
Disadvantages
 Requires skilled labor.

 Difficult to repair.

 Not suitable for small city.

Conclusion
 Advantages of Sky Bus are tremendous.

 As compared to metro railway system, Skybus

technology is easier to operate and investment for its
operations is comparatively less.
 For overpopulated Indian urban areas, Skybus seems
to be the best solution for safe, quality and inexpensive
mass public transportation.
