GESTURE TECHNOLOGY FOR DEAF

AND DUMB
Abstract
Sign language is a format of communication
used by the individuals with hearing
impairment.
 The normal individuals who have no better
idea about the formats of gestures finds it
difficult to understand the gesture formats
and communicate back to that individual with
impairment.
INTRODUCTION
Not just as a means of communication for the
impaired ones but in many of the
environments where language
communications cannot be made, hand
gestures can deliver the messages to achieve
the purpose of communication.
A design for recognizing the sign formats and
interpreting them is done.
OBJECTIVES
OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

The hand gestures are caught using the

cameras and the obtained hand motion are
handled using different available algorithms.
IMAGE PROCESSING

 Image processing is one of the rapidly growing

technologies in today’s world. Image processing
basically involves 3 major steps:
1. Importing the image via the image acquisition.
2. Analyzing and manipulating the image obtained.
3. Output in which the result can be altered image
or report that is based on the image analysis.
MODULE IMPLEMENTATION

• RGB to Gray Scale Conversion

• Edge Detection
• Contour
• ROI
• Gradient Descent Algorithm
• Testing Data
APPLICATIONS

A. It is used by impaired people

B. It is used by paralyzed people
C. During security emergencies
CONCLUSION

 People with disabilities of hearing and mute people

make use of sign language to communicate. Signs, such
as hand gestures are now-a-days used in many sign
languages.
 Minimum Euclidean distance leads to character
recognition for the input gesture. This project mainly
helps special persons to communicate directly with the
normal people who has no knowledge of Sign
Language.
 There sign language will be converted back to text so
that the normal people can also understand.
