ABSTRACT
• This project proposes a new method for the
detection of glaucoma using fundus image.
Glaucoma is a disease associated with human
eyes.
• Now-a-days detection of glaucoma is the
most important research topic in medical
field. It is the second leading cause of
blindness in the world and it has no cure.
• Glaucoma has different types, they are
normal tension, open angle, close angle etc.
Normal tension affects the vision field and
damage the optic nerve as well.
• The ter angle means distance between iris
and cornea. If the distance is large then it is
ered as open angle glaucoma. Similarly of the
distance between iris and cornea is short, that
is ered as close angle glaucoma.
INTRODUCTION
IMPORTANCE OF PROJECT WORK
• The analysis of fundus of the eye images is
widely used by the medical community to
diagnose eye diseases.
• There are many eye diseases, which can cause
blindness as Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic
Retinopathy, Conjunctivitis, among others.
• Glaucoma is a disease that affect the optic
nerve gradually, thus leading to a progressive
loss of visual field irreversibly. This optic
damage is usually caused by increased
pressure inside the eye.
AREA OF THE PROJECT
• Digital image processing is used to
implement the project
OBJECTIVE
• The main objective of this project is to
develope an automatic detection method of
glaucoma in retinal images.
• The methodologies used in this project are
image database acquisition, optic disc
segmentation and texture future analysis.
EXISTING METHOD
• Segmentation of the OD region and its
excavation was made.
• Accurate level of segmentation.
• Histogram equalisation.
• Texture extraction using GLSM.
LIMITATIONS
• Accuracy is limited.
• Processing speed is less.
PROPOSED SYSTEM
• Segmentation.
• Feature extraction.
• GLCM technique is used.
• Classification.
FUTURE SCOPE
• A future work is to implement an automatic
segmentation algorithm of excavation of the
OD in order to calculate the CDR (Cup-to-Disc
Ratio) that is the ratio between the
excavation area and the OD area.
CONCLUSION
• The digital image processing is being
used in supporting diagnostic of
diseases effectively and cheaply.
• This project presented a methodology
for automatic detection of the OD from
fundus of eye. Then, from this region
the texture features were extracted
using the GLCM matrix in different color
models.
