The Story

Formation
• Formed by 17 cattle farmers in 1958 and
registered in 1959.
• Initial procurement was 150 litres per day
• Aim was to free the farmers from the clutches of
middlemen
• First Chairman was Late Chabilal Sharma
• Since 1961, the society was under the
stewardship of Late Nandalal Upadhyay
Activities
• One of the most successful cooperatives
• Current Status:
– 1100 members
– More than 5000 cattle heads and increasing
– Daily 18000 litres of milk and increasing
– 13 collection centres in Morigaon and Kamrup
(Metro) Districts
– Decentralized structure with representation from
every village where it operates
Operational Area
The operational Area comprises Mayong Block of
Morigaon District and Dimoria block of Kamrup (Matro)
District
Sitajakhala Activities
• Vision
– Holistic and sustainable development of economic
condition of the area;
– Convergence of various organizations, agencies and
departments.
• Mission
– Increasing the number of farmers
– Increasing productivity of farm activities
– Creation of community-based organizations
– Promotion of maize/ other fodder crops
– Branding of all farm produces
– Establishment of backward and forward linkages

capacity) at Amlighat
• Branding of Sitajakhala products

procurement price for farmers
