Try to make Modeling
of Upper Air Conclusion

Upper Air Observation

In Indonesia

Introduction Data and Methods Result and Discussion

Benefit of Upper Air Data for Aviation Sector
• Understanding Altitude for Freezing Level  ICING in Plane
• Understanding Wind Speed and Direction  Vertically
• Understanding Weather Prediction  Safety Flight
• Determine the safest route for flights
Modeling of Weather Prediction will very difficult
• A lot of factor in Global, regional, and
local scale
• El Nino La Nina
• MJO
• Monsoon
• Dipole Mode
• A lot of island
• Maritime Continent
• Etc
• Different configuration for Modeling in
each place
About Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)
Weather research and forecasting (WRF) is a mesoscale model
developed by
• National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR),
• National Centre for Environmental Prediction (NCEP)
• the Forecast Systems Laboratory (FSL),
• the Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA),
• the Naval Research Laboratory,
• the University of Oklahoma,
• the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

• CAPE (Convective
• CAPE (Convective Available Potential
Available Potential Energy) is Moderate
Energy) is HIGH
• Affected by
• Updraft is STRONG Humidity

Conclusion
In general, WRF-ARW model could simulate the upper air condition in
Surabaya and Kupang Regions very well. The best simulation of this
model was for vertical temperature and dew point for all cases

The effect of different configuration for parameterization scheme

depended on what kind of data that we wanted to simulate and the place

KF scheme was generally better than BMJ Scheme. However, wind

speed simulation in Kupang Region and Humidity in Surabaya Region
were better when we used BMJ scheme.
