What is
RESEARCH?
The word research comes from two
words: the prefix re, which means
"again", and the word search,
meaning "to look for something".

6/10/2019
Researchers may want to look or search for:
•new ideas
•improve certain processes
•create something useful out of something old
•explain a series of observations
•look at something in a different perspective using a new
investigative lens.

According to Henson and Soriano
(1999), they states that research is a
systematic, controlled and empirical
inquiry about a subject/topic through
a problem –solving process using the
scientific method.
What is
RESEARCH PAPER?

6/10/2019
• A research paper is more than the sum of your
sources, more than a collection of different pieces of
information about a topic, and more than a review
of the literature in a field.

• A research paper analyzes a

perspective or argues a
point.
Why Research Paper is important?
1. You will follow the same procedure of research and
writing in your various future writing assignments.
2. You will have a sense of achievement.
3. You will become well informed about your subject
of research.
4. You will learn how to use different resources.
5. You will establish yourself as an individual.
6. You will exercise critical thinking to develop the
ability to weigh words, discriminate among ideas,
to separate fact from opinion, to find and select
relevant materials, to draw conclusions and to
blend results.

Format of a
RESEARCH PAPER

6/10/2019
Introductory Section
Title Page
Abstract
Table of Contents
List of Figures
List of Tables

6/10/2019
Title Page
The title page of your paper includes the following information:

1. Title of the paper

2. Author’s name

3. Name of the institution with which the author is affiliated

Header at the top of the page with the paper title (in capital letters) and
the page number (If the title is lengthy, you may use a shortened form of
it in the header.)

List the first three elements in the order given in the previous list,
centered about one third of the way down from the top of the page. Use
the headers and footers tool of your word-processing program to add the
header, with the title text at the left and the page number in the upper-
right corner.

Abstract
The next page of your paper provides an
abstract, or brief summary of your findings. An
abstract does not need to be provided in every
paper, but an abstract should be used in papers
that include a hypothesis. A good abstract is
concise—about one hundred to one hundred
fifty words—and is written in an objective,
impersonal style. Your writing voice will not be
as apparent here as in the body of your paper.
When writing the abstract, take a just-the-facts
approach, and summarize your research
question and your findings in a few sentences.
