 There are many different diagnoses relating to poor mental and emotional well-being.
 People will show different signs and symptoms regarding mental and emotional well-

 There are many organisations and assistance for young people to gain free help for
mental and emotional health.
 Different cultures and religions have different understandings of mental and emotional

 According to the World Health Organization, depression will be one of the biggest health
problems worldwide by the year 2020.
 About one in five Australians will experience a mental illness, and most of us will
experience a mental health problem at some time in our lives.
 Mental illnesses are of different types and degrees of severity.
 The term mental disorder is also used to refer to these health problems.

 here are many different mental disorders, with different presentations. They are generally
characterized by a combination of abnormal thoughts, perceptions, emotions, behaviour and
relationships with others.
 Mental disorders include: depression, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia and other
psychoses, dementia, intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders including autism.
 There are effective strategies for preventing mental disorders such as depression.
 There are effective treatments for mental disorders and ways to alleviate the suffering caused
by them.
 Access to health care and social services capable of providing treatment and social support is
