Microsoft Windows (or simply Windows) is a meta family of graphical OS developed, marketed,
and sold by Microsoft. It consists of several families of operating systems, each of which cater to
a certain sector of the computing industry with the OS typically associated with IBM PC
compatible architecture. Active Windows families include Windows NT, Windows Embedded
and Windows Phone these may encompass subfamilies, e.g. Windows CE or Windows Server.
Defunct Windows families include Windows 9x; Windows 10 Mobile is an active product,
unrelated to the defunct family Windows Mobile.
Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Windows on November 20, 1985, as a
graphical OS shell for MS-DOS In response to the growing interest in GUIs] Microsoft Windows
came to dominate the world's PC market with over 90% market share, overtaking MaC OS,
which had been introduced in 1984.

Windows 10:
The Start Menu is Back

Windows 8 made the hugely controversial move to eliminate the Start Menu,
opting instead for a don’t-call-it-Metro style Start Screen. It went over about as
well as you would expect. In Windows 10, however, the Start Menu is back.
Now, Live Tiles live here just like regular app icons, in (relatively) perfect
harmony.

Cortana Makes the Start Menu Even Smarter

As if bringing the Start Menu back weren’t enough, Microsoft has built its
personal voice assistant Cortana right in. Even if you’re already using Google
Now or Siri, having Cortana on your desktop can be handy. You can perform
web searches to get many of the same quick answers by simply pressing the
Win key and typing a question like “How many ounces are in a cup” or “What’s
the weather like?”

Microsoft Edge Finally Replaces Internet Explorer

Microsoft tried hard and often to get people to forgive IE.It just wasn’t
happening. Now, with Windows 10, Microsoft is ditching the old browser for
Microsoft Edge. We’ve already taken a look at browswer and, while it’s still
pretty bare bones, it has several unique features including a text-only reader
mode and even Cortana integration. While extensions haven’t arrived yet,
they should be coming before long, so Edge may be worth trying out.

Linux

Linux is the best-known and most-used open source operating system.

As an operating system, Linux is software that sits underneath all of the
other software on a computer, receiving requests from those programs
and relaying these requests to the computer’s hardware.
For the purposes of this page, we use the term “Linux” to refer to the
Linux kernel, but also the set of programs, tools, and services that are
typically bundled together with the Linux kernel to provide all of the
necessary components of a fully functional operating system. Some
people, particularly members of the Free Software Foundation, refer to
this collection as GNU/Linux, because many of the tools included are
GNU components. However, not all Linux installations use GNU
components as a part of their operating system. Android, for example,
uses a Linux kernel but relies very little on GNU tools.
