Desired Learning Outcomes

Within the session, the training participants are expected

to have:

1. Recognized the principles of project-based learning.

2. Engaged in the actual process of project-based

learning in a workshop.

3. Appreciated project-based learning.

Creating for 21st Century Learning

K to 12 Curriculum shapes
the 21st learners to become
illuminators of knowledge,
innovators of new ideas, and
artists in different genre.
Creating is a Pragmatic Approach

This is the answer that

children are not empty
vessels, they need to
experience practical
strategies to live life (John
Dewey).
Project based Learning Strategy is
anchored on the capacity of the
st
21 century learner to create
meaningful outputs as evidences
of learning.
A Project is a significant, practical
unit of activity of a problematic
nature, planned and carried to
completion by the students in a
natural manner, an involving the
use of physical materials to
complete the unit of experience
(Acero, Javier & Castro, 2000).
A Project gives an opportunity for
self-expression ( Kochar, 2006). It
is done in every unit activity as a
form of exhibits.
Types of Projects
1. Construction and Manipulation Project requires
students to do something, by concretizing their
ideas using physical resources. Examples are
collage, brochure, Mache, dress, fish pond and
other visuals (Acero, et al, 2000).

2. Employment Project motivates students to

participate in an activity that provides
enjoyment and satisfaction. Examples are
engaging the Cleaning Drive, Nutrition
Campaign, etc. (Acero, et al, 2000)
Types of Project
3. Problem Project motivates to master some intellectual
difficulties which come from the learner himself or
herself, which is taken out of curiosity or interest in the
subject. Examples of this is research, advocacy, product
invention or modification (Acero, et al, 2000).

4. Learning Project drives the acquisition of the skill or

knowledge learned in the subject. Examples of this is
writing their own life history after learning the history of
the Bonifacio in the Katipunan. Writing a story of their
barangay, maintaining a garden plot to raise the vegetable
yields (Acero, et al, 2000).
Types of Project
5. Esthetic Project aims at some enjoyable
experience like presenting a humorous play,
writing a story or a poem, etc. (Calderon, 1998)

6. Skill Project aims at developing certain skills

like learning how to play the guitar or any
musical instrument (Calderon, 1998).
Steps for Project Method
1. Purposing is the meeting the goals of the
project based on learners’ needs, abilities, and
interests. Goals and activities are decided upon
active cooperation by the learners and the teacher.

Context: Peddling in the street corners create traffic

congestions in the city of Carcar.
1. What contribution can we do to solve it?
(brainstorming)
Steps for Project Method
2. Planning is the opportunity for learners to give
suggestions to initiate the solution of a problem.

Context: Of all the suggestions that you gave, let us

think of the most applicable project. We have to
consider the limited time and resources.
1. What are our objectives on this project?
2. What are strategies to achieve these objectives?
3. Who are the persons involved in this project?
Steps for Project Method
3. Executing is the means of carrying out the
activities as planned and envisioned by the
class. This may take one class period, a week, a
month, or the whole semester depending on the
project being undertaken.

Context: This is the actual project-making (the

making of a brochure, signage, feasibility study,
research, etc.
Steps for Project Method
4. Evaluating is the actual; exhibits of the
students’ projects to be judged both by the
teacher and the learners using a crafted rubrics.
Learners’ critical thinking is used to train to look
on what is positive rather than negative
criticism.
Context: this is the actual judging of students’
work.

Workshop for the Second Day

1. Think of a lesson based on the content and

performance standards in you Curriculum Guide.
2. Plan a lesson using Project-based Learning Strategy
using the four steps of a Project Method explicitly
found in the teacher’ Lesson Plan.
3. Prepare for a Demonstration Lesson.
4. Provide Rubrics for rating the lesson plan and the
corresponding demonstration.
