Career

I plan to become a graphic designer.

Graphic Designers create many of the

things that we see everyday. Things like
posters, advertisements, logos,
magazines, shirt designs, and more.

They do so through traditional and

digital methods. This included
sketching and using computer
software.
Career (cont.)

A Graphic Designer’s salary depends

on several factors such as location,
experience, title, education level and
where you work.

The average wage is $56,000. The

wage can go as high as $75,000 or
higher. This all depends on the
project and how much time it will
take to do it.
If you work as a freelancer or with a
company your wage will differ.
Some companies outsource to
freelancers sometimes because of
their experience and expertise.
Education

You don’t have to go to school to be a

graphic designer but some education
and training will be helpful. It will also
help determine how much you make.

You can go to an Art school or to a

regular college to receive further
education. This usually takes from
2-4 years.

I plan to attend JSU in

Jacksonville Alabama. I plan to
major in Graphic Design and
minor in Marketing since they will
compliment each other and help
me in the long run.
Education (Cont.)

The yearly cost to attend JSU is

about 6,500 to 7,650 including
books.

My dad has some money saved

up for me but it won’t be
enough. I will need get to
student loan. The amount I will
borrow will be 20,000 to 40,000.

I will be staying on campus my

freshman year and will probably
move into a cheap apartment for
my sophomore year onward. I will
most likely have a part time job
as well.
Medical Benefits

If a Graphic Designer is
working for a company he
will receive medical benefits
from that company.

I will probably start off as

a freelance designer so I
will have to find my own
medical benefits.

I will use Blue Cross

Blue Shield.
Standard Living
I plan to own a house after college. It
would be around the $30,000 to
$80,000. It will probably be located in
the Jacksonville area.

The water bill will be about 25

dollars a month. Electricity will be
about 100 dollars or more a month.

I will have a Charter cable

premium package at about
$124.98 a month.
Standard Living (Cont.)
I will be using DSL internet from AT&T
for about $19.95 a month.

I’ll have a landline telephone and a

cellphone. The landline will be about
$19.00 or less a month. My cell phone bill
will probably be about 60 to 70 dollars a
month. Both will be with AT&T

I will probably spend around

200 to 380 dollars a month
on food.
Transportation
I don’t own a car at the moment. My
uncle said he was working on a car
for me. It’s a 1999 Chevy Malibu.

When I have saved enough money I

will purchase me a car. I might buy a
Chrysler 300. It starts at $27,170.
Furniture
• I will buy a dresser drawer for my
clothes - $100
• A television - $300
• Laptop - $500
• Computer desk and chair - $230
• Dinner table and chairs - $344
• King size bed - $410
• Couch and love seat - $900
• Coffee table and 2 end tables -
$140
Entertainment costs

I don’t usually go to concerts but I do

go to the movies.

A ticket costs $20 for one person. I

may go to the movies 3 days out of a
month. That makes my
entertainment cost for the month
$60.
