Communication

Communication is the action of conveying or exchanging information


and ideas.

It is the two way process:


1. Speaker
2. Listener

 Intrapersonal communication
 Interpersonal communication
Interpersonal Communication
 Interpersonal communication is the process by which people exchange
information through –verbal and non-verbal messages.
 Interpersonal skills includes:

 ability to listen and understand


 problem solving
 decision making
 personal stress management
Importance of interpersonal communication

 Effective communication is very helpful in work place where we need to interact


with different types of people.
 It is important in maintaining good relationship within family and with friends.
 Interpersonal communications skills are also known as life skills.
Interpersonal Communication Process
 Source
 The sender initiates the message.
 Message
 The intended meaning or purpose to be conveyed.
 Encoding
 The message converted in symbolic form. In written/printed, verbal or
nonverbal actions.
 Channel
 The medium used to transmit the message. (face-to-face, e-mail, telephone,
etc…)
Merits and Demerits of interpersonal communication:
1. Irreversibility of communication

Merits:
Once when interpersonal communication has taken place, it could
not be hold back.

Demerits:
When the communication was not flowed properly with good
impact, it is always bad impression.
2. Communication does not only be verbal communication

Merits:
When you are in a good mood, you may convey it in a better way.

Demerits:
The communication might be of body language and it is really
hard to stop when something goes on emotionally, at that point of
time, you may resort to have violence interaction.
3. Situation

Merits:
The communication can also be depending on the situation, when situation
will be calm both in psychologically and socially then communication
would be flowed smoothly.

Demerits:
When the situation of discourse is in harsh and not good, the
communication might not be good flow.
