CONFERENCE

Introduction
• The following specific examination questions have
been taken from papers provided to staff to address
NCR’s raised during the review of the suppliers
examinations.
• The specific questions cover PT, MT, RT & UT at
Level 2
• This is a Litmus test for determining whether a
specific exam question is “look-up” or requires an
understanding of the requirement.

Expectation
• Each heading shows the method being
addressed
• Look at each method and question then ask
yourself “Is this question look up or does it
require an understanding of the specification /
procedure to address this?
• Look at it from the point of view “If I gave the
examination and specification / procedure to
any one outside NDT would they be able to
pass the examination?”

AC7114/1 Question
• What is the minimum UV intensity at the
inspection surface?
a) 1000 micro watts per cm2
b) 1500 micro watts per cm2
c) 1200 micro watts per cm2
d) 800 micro watts per cm2

AC7114/1 Question
• When performing the UV intensity control
check, the measured intensity at the inspection
surface was recorded as 1050 micro watts per
sq cm. Is this measurement sufficient to allow
inspection of parts? If not, what course of action
is necessary?

AC7114/1 Question
• If the TAM Panel is found to have fluorescence
present after cleaning, you reprocess the panel
with the ultrasonic cleaner. If it can not be
cleaned or if it is corroded or chipped, it must
be replaced.
a) True
b) False - why?

AC7114/1 Question
• If dwell times are exceeded, and components
are reprocessed with a dwell time of 30
minutes, is this acceptable?
a) Yes
b) No - why?

AC7114/1 Question
• During the inspection of a casting, part number
1234567, under UV light it is noted that there is
penetrant bleed out on a machined portion of
the casting. After carrying out a wipe off
technique the bleed out is found to be caused
by porosity, which has been opened to the
surface. The porosity is confined to a 1 inch
square area and the maximum size of any pore
is 0.002 inches. The total number of pores is
15.
• Is this casting acceptable or reject to
8
acceptance criteria ABC123? And why?

determine that the parts have been successfully
demagnetized?

b) By using a gauss meter.
c) Careful observation for clinging magnetic
particles.1.0 – 4.0
