Project On
Information and
Management of Pest with
Prevention and Damage
Control
A.K.A. Mitra Kitak

Presented By:
Nilay Bhatt
Introduction
• The Indian crops are attacked by more than 157 species of insects
which can cause economic damage as well as yield losses.
• Even trace residues of synthetic chemicals in food are undesirable and
represent a significant food safety risk.
• So, it is utmost necessary that farmers can apply exact pesticides
though to its minimum to its right dosage which can affect precisely
with maximum efficiency.
Objectives
• To develop an Android Application specially designed for farmer to get
the exact, specific practices known after detection of pests in their
field with the information on control and preventive measures of
pests.
Information Gathering
• The required information for the project was collected by questioning
a Research Scientist at Vegetable and Fruit Department, Dr. Jalpa.
• The understanding of the system to be built was also gathered from
the existing system and understanding the limitations of existing
system and the needed improvement.
Questionnaire
• What type of problems are being faced by the users using the existing
system?
• What is the actual requirement of the end users i.e., farmers?
• How can the system to be developed be made simple and easy to use?
• What are the parameters to be considered when giving answer to the
user?
Requirement Analysis
• A system which gives the information of the crop and its pest was
required.
• Along with it the preventive measures according to the field conditions
was also must.
• The farmer should also be able to ask questions to the field expert and
receive satisfactory answer was a requirement.
Existing System Proposed System
• Existing system considers only • This new system overcomes the
few parameters as input. before stated problem by
• For example, just by giving pest considering 9 parameters.
name, and crop with variety • So, farmer can get relatable as
name, whole IPM of that crop is well as the information which is
displayed. only “Required”.
• So, the much required • Plus the farmer can ask
information which is accurate questions to the expert of so and
and relatable that a farmer can so crop also. This Q&A is also
understand is not given. customized here for better
output.
MitraKitak Features
• MitraKitak is an android mobile application which is an advantage
because of the digitization in India reached even to the remotest part
of India.
• The question asked is answered by the concerned person of the crop
so as to maintain the credibility of answer.
Feasibility Study
• Technical Requirement
• Hardware Requirement(s)
• 8 GB RAM (for effective working)
• Dual Core Processor (for effective working)
• Software Requirement(s)
• Android Studio, AVD Manager
• Windows 8 or 10
• Xampp Server
• For user, a mobile phone with a data pack.
Feasibility Study
• Economical
• Software used are open source and free of cost.
• The only monetary spending will be of internet pack.
• Operational
• The application will be easy to access with easy understanding of the
operations.
Modules
• Admin
• Admin module will add the details of pests and its favourable
conditions so that the pest can be verified, and recommendation of
pesticide can be given.
• Admin can also view the farmer, scientist and question and answer
details.
Admin Module
Modules
• Farmer
• Farmer will input the area of field, crop grown, date of sowing,
previous applied pesticide, part of plant affected, observed pest, stage
of pest.
• The farmer will get the pesticide to be applied with precise dosage.
The cost estimation will also be provided.
Farmer Module
Modules
• Expert
• Expert will be able to see the questions asked by farmers and will
answer it.
• He/she will also be able to update the conditions of the pest if any
updating is required.

Normalization

• The crop name is repeated in Variety, Pest, Pesticide, Pest Info

table. So, instead of name, its id is used, thus in 1NF.

• Instead of farmer name, farmer id is used in Farm data table.

• The pest info table contains references of the crop id, variety id,
pest id, pesticide id. Same is done in farm data table.
Testing
• The testing done was manual testing.
• In manual testing the following tests were conducted:
o Whether system allows null fields or not?
o Is contact number field accept only 10 digits or not?
o Is Name field only allows alphabets or not?
o Does textbox offers masking of characters in password field?
o Is there any minimum password length?
o Check the behavior of form by not filling up any data into the form.
o Check the by not filling up the required fields.

Future Enhancement
• The project can be made more efficient by including more functionality such
as a picture can be processed and the pest can be identified.
• With it the related remedies can be provided.

25
Conclusion

• Using this Android Application farmers can help

themselves regarding Pest Management just few
clicks away. Using this application, famer’s time
can be saved as he will know what farm
practices to do beforehand in needed
proportions thus saving money too.
