Installing 2 or 3 AC/DC PSUs
• When mounted vertically with the connector panel pointing

downwards, the unit fulfills IP32 in areas with more than
42 V and IP22 in other areas.
• The mounting holes are designed in such a way that units
fit nicely on top of each other when being stacked. mounting holes
• Specifications of the mounting bolts:

• 2-block mount: 4 x M6X100 mm DIN912 Unbrako
• 3-block mount: 4 x M6X140 mm DIN912 Unbrako
Important
• To ensure adequate cooling of the AC/DC Power Supplies an

unobstructed space of minimum 5 cm must be maintained around
all sides of the group of units (except between the units and the
bottom side).

• Connectors are protected by a plastic protective lid.

• U-shaped cutout to be removed for the respective
cable in the plastic protective lid.

Connection – AC Input
AC Input connector has two terminals:

• One for the incoming AC mains power.
• The other terminal for the mains power going to

the next AC/DC Power Supply for daisy-chain up to
three AC/DC Power Supply units.

Connection – AC Alarm Output
The AC alarm output provides an alarm signal when the

AC/DC Power Supply cannot deliver the required power from
the AC input.
This is the case when:

• No AC power is present.
• The AC fuse is blown.
• The on/off switch is in the position off.
• The output is short-circuited or heavily overloaded.
• An internal error has occurred.

Note
• A single DC output connector can handle 30A.
• When connecting 2 or 3 6080 PSU units in

parallel, the combined power may be drawn
from a single connector.
There are 2 DC output connectors:

• DC1: Connect the DC cable to the equipment that must be powered.
• DC2: 2 purposes, to provide DC output or to serve as an input connector when daisy-chaining

up to 3 AC/DC Power Supply units.

Connection – Battery
• You can connect an external 24 V

emergency battery to the AC/DC Power
Supply to make sure the unit is operational
in case the AC input fails.
• The battery input is protected against

wrong polarity of the battery.

To connect to DC2 do as follows:
1. Connect the DC cable to the connector
marked DC1 and the equipment that must be
powered.
2. To daisy-chain a second AC/DC Power Supply.

• Connect the cable from DC1 in PSU1 to DC2 in PSU2.
• Connect the DC cable to the connector marked DC 2 and the equipment that must be powered.
3. Remove the u-shaped cut-out for this input from the protective lid.
If > 3x300 W or 30 A output is needed, you need to follow special

guidelines ‘Wiring four or more AC/DC Power Supply units’ on page 27
to see how to connect the 6080 PSUs to meet these requirements.

To connect to DC2 do as follows:

1. Connect the DC cable to the connector
marked DC2 and the equipment that must be
powered.
2. To daisy-chain a second AC/DC PSU unit.
- Connect the cable from DC1 in PSU1 to

- Connect the DC cable to the connector

Important !
Ensure that a single connector is never

overloaded with more than 30 A.
If you need more than 3x300 W or 30 A you can connect more than 3 AC/DC Power Supply
units as shown in the drawing. This is to make sure that a single connector is never overloaded
with more than 30 A.

Service and Repair
Maintenance Free
• The AC/DC Power Supply is designed to operate without preventive maintenance.

• The AC/DC Power Supply does not require maintenance and adjustment apart from
routine checking of its installation.
• Repair or repair attempts performed by unqualified personnel may limit the warranty.
Warning ! Never insert or remove a power supply while its power

switch is in the On (|) position. Make sure the power switch
is Off (O) first.

Voltage modification kit
• Some 6081 PSU giving high voltage out (above 31Vdc).

• A 'Voltage modification kit' for 6080 PSU should be inserted in the control connector on the PSU.
• The kit reduces the TT-6080 PSU output voltage to 30V

Highlights SAILOR 6080 unit
Connector Panel
• Consists of 1 x SAILOR 6080 unit and 1 x Connector Panel

• Provides 5 x DC power outlets (separately fused) and 1 x 15V DC power outlet.
• It also charges automatically to a connected 24V battery.
• If the AC power fails the power supply delivers DC power from battery.
• You can access control and monitoring data via the Ethernet interface.
• Relay outputs for AC outage and battery voltage alarm.
• A single 6081 power supply provides up to 370W max and can be increased to
1480 W in total with addition of 3 x 6080.

General - Available Models

The following models are available:
• SAILOR 6081 can easily be upgraded on site to more output power by adding up to 3 x 6080.
• The connection between the PSUs and the connector panel are protected against water ingress
by a protection cover.
• A cable relief bracket to secure heavy cables is integrated in the wall-mount tray.
• When mounted vertically it fulfills IP32 in areas with more than 42 V and IP22 in other areas.

General - Battery Charger functions
• Fail Safe mode - In case of AC power failure or overload, the connected battery
delivers the required power seamlessly.
Note: Output power has a higher priority than the charging current.
• No Charge mode - If battery voltage < 8 V, the charger will not start.
• Pre-charge mode – When battery voltage < 23V, charging current of about 2 ~3A is
maintained to load deeply discharged batteries.
• Regular charging - When battery voltage > 23V, regular charging starts with
maximum charging current.
The maximum charging current and the nominal battery voltage can be adjusted.

• 6081 PSU/CH is designed for used in installations that need a stable and powerful power
supply with battery charger.
Example: 6081 PSU/CH generates the DC supply in a GMDSS system.

Example: A typical sea area A3 GMDSS installation where 6081 PSU/CH fits into an installation
with two segments, primary and duplicate, as required by GMDSS requirement. Each segment
has its own power supply, but often the two segments share the same battery.

Installing the 6081 PSU/CH
• Can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position.

• Can be mounted as a single unit.
• Can be upgraded by adding up to 3 SAILOR 6080 units
if more power up to max 1480W is needed.
• When mounted in a vertical position, with the connector
panel pointing downwards, the Power Supply fulfills
IP32 in areas with more than 42 V and IP22 in other
areas.
Important

Grounding
1. Connect chassis to ship with a cable (minimum wire cross section: 4 mm2) or equivalent.
The maximum cable length is 1 m.
2. Connect the drain wire for each cable to the designated GND terminal or bolt it to the
mounting plate as shown above (2.).
3. Ground the Power Supply Unit and Charger to ship, for example at the screw holding the
mounting plate, as shown above (3.).
- When installing the power supply, make sure you connect the chassis of
the power supply to ship ground.

Connector – X2: Battery
• The 6081 PSU/CH can charge a connected 24V battery.

• In case of overload and/or missing AC source the power
supply seamlessly delivers power from the connected
battery.
• The default maximum charging current is 8 A *.
• The default float voltage is 27.2 V * at 20° C.
Notes:
These values* depend on the size of the battery, check the documentation for the battery.
The maximum charging current and the float voltage can be configured, for further details see
Customizing battery settings on page 33.

Connector – X4: Relay output for battery voltage alarm
An alarm is generated if the battery voltage is outside the

allowed voltage range.
• Default voltage for battery alarm, lower limit: 23.5 V
• Default voltage for battery alarm, upper limit: 29.5 V
Notes:
These limits can be changed. For further details see Customizing battery settings on page 33.

Installation
Connector – X5: Interface for legacy battery panel
• The X5 can be interfaced to a battery panel such as Sailor

BP-4680 battery panel.
• The current shown in the connected battery panel, e.g
Sailor BP-4680, is the sum of all currents to or from the
battery.
Example 1:
Two 6081 PSU/CH share one battery, each unit charges with
4 A. The charging currents shown = 8 A.
Example 2:
Two 6081 PSU/CH share one battery, one unit charges with 4
A, the other unit draws 3 A. The charging currents = 1 A.

Connector – X5: Interface for legacy battery panel
Sailor BP-4680 battery panel
An old Sailor BP-4680 battery panel can be interfaced

to the 6081 PSU/CH for battery monitoring and alarms.

Connector – X6: Ethernet Interface
• There is one Ethernet (10/100 MB) connector on the

connector panel.
• Monitoring and control data are available at this interface
when use with the SAILOR 6006 Message Terminal or a
software tool (TMA Tool).
• Allow customize of some battery charger parameters and
alarm thresholds.

Connector – X8: Cross link interface
• A Cross link interface (X8) is required when 2 or more 6081

PSU/CHs are installed and shared the same battery.
• Allows controlling of the charging load for the shared battery.
• This ensures dynamic adjustments to the requirements for
charging the battery and all DC outputs.
• The cross link ensures that the maximum charging current* is not exceeded.
• For cross link use NMEA 2000 cables with color coding that match the colors at the Cross Link connector.
• You may also use Ethernet cable, for CAN_H and CAN_L use a twisted pair.
*The maximum charging current and the float voltage can be configured, for further details see
Customizing battery settings on page 33.

Installation
Connector – X9: Battery Temperature Sensor S1

• In order to optimize the battery charging
profile, a temperature sensor may be
mounted on the battery and connected to
X9-S1.
• It is part of the delivery and available as
an option. (part number: 406081-010).
Sensor probe
• On a 'double charger' solution only need 1 temperature sensor to be installed on the primary charger.
The temperature information will then be forwarded via the cross link to control both chargers.
• If two sensors are fitted, the system will act towards the sensor giving the most extreme value, giving
lowest value of the two if under 20 degrees Celsius alternatively highest value of the two if above 20
degrees Celsius.
• Installation of temperature sensor is urgent to make sure to have best possible battery maintenance.

Connector – X10: DC output (50 A)
• Providing DC power to MF/HF System.

• It is fused at 50A.
• The 50A fuse can be ordered from Thrane & Thrane part number S-33-205377-050.

Connector – X11 & X12: 2 x DC output (20 A)
• The X11 and X12 outputs are fused with 20A fuse.
20A ATO blade fuse p/n: S-45.665.
• The X11 and X12 outputs are rated up to 30 A, thus

30 A fuses may be used.
• 30A ATO blade fuse p/n: S-33-205196-030.

• 10A ATO blade fuse p/n: S-45.663.

Connector – X15: 15VDC output (3 A)
• The 15Vdc output is not fused but electronically protected by a

current limiter. •X15
• If it is overloaded it will 'fold back' the voltage to a max drain of
2mA.
The shield of the CAN cable from the Mini-C Transceiver,

must be connected to ship ground in the power supply.
The connection point in the 15 V DC output (X15) - this is
important for protection against lightning.

Installation
Jumpers – J500: Cross link interface (X-LINK POWER)

The jumper J500 has two functions:
1. Enabling power to the X-LINK (cross link)
connection.
2. Identifying the default power supply as the
“Primary” segment when J500 is jumper.
• J500 provides a 15 V DC for the cross ink

interface.
• This supply is fused by an auto-reset fuse with a
maximum break current of 200 mA.
Mount the jumper J500 on one PSU— and only ONE power supply in the primary segment.
• The SAILOR 6081 can provide various status and alarm information. To forward alarms correctly to the
connected devices (MF/HF, VHF, Inmarsat C, etc), it is important that each SAILOR 6081 is configured
correctly with information about the connected equipment.
• For configurations with one SAILOR 6081 in one segment:

• Jumper J500 IN: The SAILOR 6081 drives all equipment in the primary segment.
• Jumper J500 OUT: The SAILOR 6081 drives all equipment in the duplicated segment.

Installation
Jumpers – W503: Termination of Cross Link
When 2 or more 6081 PSU/CHs are installed and

shared the same battery:
• A Cross link interface cable to be connected to

all 6081 PSU/CHs.
• Terminate the cross link with a jumper in
W503 in the first and the last 6081 PSU/CH.

Configuring multiple SAILOR 6081 PSU/CHs

Setup of several SAILOR 6081 units in a segment
You must setup each SAILOR 6081 with the following information so that each
Power Supply Unit and Charger can provide alarms etc. to the relevant
connected equipment:
• Is the SAILOR 6081 part of the primary or duplicated segment?

• Which devices (MF/HF, VHF, Inmarsat mini-C) does the SAILOR 6081
power?
Once correctly set up, the alarms and status information from the SAILOR 6081
are correctly displayed in the respective system.

The following connectors on 6080 PSU are used:

• AC input
• Black 10-pin plug for control data
• One DC out (DC1 or DC2)
The following connectors on 6080 PSU are not used:

• AC alarm
• Battery
• One DC out (DC1 or DC2)

Eg 1: A3 GMDSS (Dual-C) with 2 x 6081 without sharing the battery (no cross link)

Exchanging the fuses
The connector panel on 6081 has separately fused DC outputs. To exchange a fuse for
one of the DC outputs, do as follows:
1. Minimize the current drawn by switching off as many devices as possible.
2. Locate the fuse to be exchanged on the connector panel.

3. Take out the blown fuse and put in a new of the same size.

The 6080 PSU has a fuse to secure the AC input. To exchange the AC fuse, do as
follows:
1. Locate the fuse, it is accessible from outside the housing. It is positioned next to
the on/off switch.
2. Turn the fuse holder and extract it.
3. Take out the old fuse and insert a new one (type: 5x20 mm, 6.3 AT).
4. Insert and fasten the fuse holder.

Customizing battery settings
Battery Monitoring – Via 6006 Message Terminal

• Ethernet connection for monitoring of battery information to be displayed on
SAILOR 6006 Message Terminal.

To customize some parameters and alarm thresholds use SAILOR 6006 Message Terminal, or Software tool
i.e. TMA Tool. The communication is via the Ethernet interface.
Notes:
a. The charging current may be lower depending on the currently available output power.
b. b. All voltages at 20° C. If a temperature sensor is mounted the voltages are compensated with -36 mV/°C.
c. If the recharge voltage is higher than the float voltage, recharging starts only when the battery voltage reaches the Recharge
voltage level.
d. Only relevant if a battery temperature sensor is installed.

You can view the battery settings in the SAILOR 6006 Message Terminal or Software tool.
Use the touchscreen to enter the menu System, then Power.

Overview
• SAILOR 6081 PSU/CH can be upgraded on site with up to 3 6080 PSUs to increase the
DC power output up to 740, 1110 or 1480 W.
• The upgrade can be made on site by trained service personnel.
When upgrading, you must connect:

1. Mains AC from additional SAILOR 6080 to Mains AC on the original power supply.
2. Control data connector from SAILOR 6080 to the connector marked C2, C3, or C4.
3. DC output from SAILOR 6080 to the connector marked P2, P3, or P4.

Warning ! Never insert or remove a power supply while its power

switch is in the On (|) position. Make sure the power switch
is Off (O) first.

Exchanging the AC fuse:
1. Turn the device that holds the fuse and extract it.
2. Remove old fuse and insert a new one

One fuse is installed in the SAILOR 6090 Power Converter. If the fuse is blown, do as follows:
1. Track down why the fuse was blown and solve the problem.
2. Take out the old fuse.
3. Insert the new fuse. The fuse rating is 10 A T.
