Why safety is important in the
workplace?

How we can say that the workplace is


free from risk and hazards?
SAFETY
 Refers to the freedom from risks, danger,
accident and hazards that may cause
injury and illness in the workplace.
 It is the physical or environmental conditions
of work which comply with the prescribed
Occupational Health Safety (OHS) standards
and which allow the workers to perform his
or her job without or within acceptable
exposure to hazards.

 Is anything coming from living

Chemical Hazards

 Is any substance that can cause


harm, primarily to people.
Psychosocial Hazards
 Is a type of hazard relates to mental
health and behavioural disorder.
Mechanical/Electrical Hazards
 Electrical – a dangerous condition where a
worker could make electrical contact with
energized equipment or a conductor.
 Mechanical - It includes machinery,
equipment, pressure vessels, dangerous goods,
fork lifts, cranes, hoists.
Physical/Ergonomics Hazards
 Physical – anything which threaten your
physical safety.
 Ergonomics – a condition that cause poor
workplace design, awkward body mechanics or
posture, repetitive movements and the like.

write suggestions/recommendations to solve the
identified risk/hazard.
