1. COMBINATION REACTION (SYNTHESIS)
A+B AB
•1. COMBINATION REACTION (SYNTHESIS)
C + O2 CO2
A+B AB
2. DECOMPOSITION REACTION
AB A+B
2. DECOMPOSITION REACTION
• This is a chemical change where a single
compound (the reactant) breaks down into
two or more simpler products.
• This type of reaction is easily identifiable,
because:
• There is always one reactant. If you see one
reactant that’s a compound and several
products, a decomposition reaction occurred.
2. DECOMPOSITION REACTION
NaCl Na + Cl
AB A+B
3. SINGLE - REPLACEMENT REACTION
A +BC AC + B
3. SINGLE - REPLACEMENT REACTION
Zn + CuCl ZnCl + Cu
A +BC AC + B
4. DOUBLE - REPLACEMENT REACTION
AB + CD AD + CB
4. DOUBLE - REPLACEMENT REACTION
• A chemical change where there is an
exchange of positive ions between two
compounds
• May also be called double-displacement
reactions • Generally take place in aqueous
solution
• Often produce a precipitate, a gas, or a
molecular compound (i.e. water)
4. DOUBLE - REPLACEMENT REACTION
AB + CD AD + CB
