 Public building: - Public buildings are any type of building that is accessible
to the public and is funded from public sources.

diseases and also given advices for healthy living.

PLANNING OF HEALTH CENTRE


LOCATION
• They should be located centrally in a quiet place which is well connected by
convenient means of transport.
• Infectious diseases hospitals like T.B. Sanitorium are located away from the city
at a place of healthy atmosphere like a hill station.
• The size of site for a health centre should be large enough to permit open
planning . It should be centrally located in an easily accessible area. The area
chosen should have facilities for electricity, all weather road communication,
adequate water supply and telephone. At a place, where a PHC is already
located, another health centre should not be established to avoid the
wastage of human resources.
• PHC should be away from garbage collection, cattle shed, water logging
area, etc. PHC shall have proper boundary wall and gate

• Entrance door should be wide enough as a patient is usually accompanied by
escorts or may be brought horizontally on strecher.
• Privacy:- Privacy is vital for obstetrics and gynaecology and at every level of
surgery.
• Roominess:-sick man need room than healthy man thus wards should be spacious.
• Grouping:-casualty ward should be nearer to the entrance.
• Outpatient dept. and pharmacy should be close
• Large windows in sufficient numbers are essential for a hospital.

• PRINCIPAL OF PLANNING
• Circulation:- separate entrance for doctors and staff should be provided than patients.
• Too much traffic in nursing unit corridor will disturb patient. Short routes are preferred.

• Emergency entrance leading to intensive care unit should be provided nearer to lift.

• Lifts and stairs should be big enough for easy vertical circulation for a harbour stretcher on trolley.

• Sanitation:- Noiselessness, free circulation of natural breeze and exposure to the morning sun keeps
patients cheerful helping them to recover quickly.

• Cleanliness is a must for a health centre.

• floors which can be easily cleaned and walls of bright appearance should be opted thus suitable
materials are chosen.

• Elegance:- A min plinth height of .75 m creates effective drainage


• Head room greater than 3.5 m and more width and height of doors and windows are opted.
