Characteristic of ESP
As Carter (1983) identified there are 3 characteristic of ESP
course:

1. Authenthic material
-The material is authentical content and based on area interest

2. Purposed-related orientation
-Refers to the simulation of communicative tasks required of
the target setting

3. Self direction
-Corncerned with turning learners into user
Characteristic of EAP
The characteristics of of EAP (English for academic
purpose)
1. For school and University students
-To mastering language to succeed their subject
2. Focus in academic context
- EAP refers to language research and instruction that
focuses on specific communicative needs and practices in
learning group
3. Help learners to gain access to ways of communicating
4. Similar with ESP to identifying the specific set of skills,
but EAP should be concerned with common core of
universal skill or language forms
The Aim of ESP and EAP
- The aim of ESP is to make students mastering English in
the major they are learning. And ESP is designed to
prepare students
or working adults for the English used in specific
disciplines, vocations, or professions to accomplish specific
purposes.

- The aims of EAP is to improve the ability of English

students from the general to be more specific in academic
matters. EAP refers to language research and instruction
that focuses on the specific communicative needs and
practices of particular groups in academic contexts.
The Implementation
ESP : (Using TOEFL to learn general english subject) Many
majors non-English are intended to develop the students'
mastery of grammar, basic English skills (reading, writing,
listening) which the content is general English subject and
sometimes the teacher teach TOEFL for ESP course, it is to use
as a part of the assessment of reading test.

EAP : (Using MySQL & JSP technology)To achieve the

informationized and standardized management for EAP English
instruction work in the universities, this design and develop a
EAP English online learning system with B / S as the system
develop-ment framework by which the system's overall
functions are designed. MySQL is chosen as a database
development tool used to implement the main object mod-ule,
while JSP technology is used to support the cross-platform
mechanism in order to access to diversified data sources.
