I can become an expert on Chapter 8: Inductive, by
reading, comprehending, and synthesizing information
from the given text.
What is the Inductive Model? :

“The Inductive Model encourages students’ development

of critical thinking skills as they explore and learn concepts
in the academic content areas and the facts associated with
these concepts.” (Kilbane, 2014, pg 186)

Steps for using Inductive Model
1. Introduce the lesson. During this 2. Divergent phase. During this step,
step, the teacher is just simply the teacher will present the

students and starting to engage open ended questions that require
them in the new content he/she will students to analyze the examples.

teacher.

3. Convergent Phase. Still, with 4. Closure. During this step,
guidance and support from the students demonstrate their

examples and nonexamples (if any) the concepts and connect them with
and focus on these examples and one another. Also, at this stage,

to making a connection and concept. Basically, students should be able
to put meaning to their examples
and their ideas and have that “a-ha
moment.”

5. Application. During this step, children are
able to synthesize and demonstrate their
learning of the new concept and their
connections. “Ideally, students will apply
their learning in real life scenarios.
However, it is not always possible for
students to do so.” (Kilbane and Milman, 2014, pg 192)

When to use/implement the
Inductive Model …
After reading chapter 8 in Teaching Models and reviewing the article, Use Inductive
Teaching Methods to Enhance Your Effectiveness with Kids, the Inductive Model is
most effective when starting a new unit or when starting new content. The
Inductive Model can be used in either a small group setting or in a whole group
setting. The Inductive Model can also be used for all content subjects (math,
reading, science, and social studies).

How to differentiate the Inductive
Model …
“For the Inductive Model to be beneficial, consideration must be paid to learner
difference and how they might be bolstered.” (Kilbane and Milman, 2014, pg
197)

Questions to ask when differentiating
Inductive Model..
1. Which material will best 3. Have I provided materials

classroom?

2. Are the materials I selected 4. What challenges might my

relevant to all learners? learners experience while
examining these materials to
learn about the concept?

Benefits of Inductive
Model
Inductive model allows
students to:
■ Critical thinking
■ Collaborate
■ Synthesize learning
■ Make connections
■ Stimulated responses
■ Investigate
■ Apply their learning

■ Identify patterns
■ Promotes deep learning
Inductive Model benefit on student
learning…
Another great benefit of the inductive
model is that it promotes student
learning and it makes the student
responsible for their own learning. It
also allows students to make sense of
their connections to the content.

Technology for the Inductive Model
Any form of technology may be used
Great apps to use to to demonstrate understanding
implement the Inductive while using the Inductive Model.
Model: Personally, teachers should use
applications that allow students to
■ SeeSaw expand their knowledge, synthesize
■ Flipgrid their learning and explain their
understanding of their connections
■ BookCreator to content. The applications listed
are all applications that have
■ Prezi several components and allow
■ Google students to demonstrate their
learnings and discovery.
SIR RONALD AYLMER

“Inductive inference is the only process known to us by
which essentially new knowledge comes into the world.”
