COST ESTIMATION
The meter used is having a constant of 250.

6.1.1.1. KWH Reading

The difference from the month of March 1st day to the month April 1st day is,
12526.0800 – 12398.9800 = 127.100 units.

As P.A College of Engineering is using HT installation, the total units used is,

127.1 (units) * 250 (meter constant) = 31775 units.

P.A College of Engineering is paying an amount of 272542 Rs at the rate of 8.77 pu.

When considered annually it is a very large amount (2725420 for 10 months).

To avoid the huge payment of non renewable source generated electric power bill every year,
An idea for installation of solar power plant at P.A College of Engineering, which uses renewable energy
as source.

8
Total energy consumption by the college per month – 31775 units

Total energy consumption by the college per day - (31775/24) = 1324 units
(as the working days at the college will be around 24 days)

If the plant is to be installed,

The energy to be generated per hour is = (1324/8) = 165 KWP
(As the working hours of college each day is 8 hours)

Considering of using 250Wp Solar panels, having a loss of 10W due to dust and clouds,
Min output of plant = 250W – 10W = 240W.

Therefore,
Total solar panel required to generate 165KWP power is,
(165000W / 240W) = 690 solar panels

Availability of solar energy = 10 hours (from 07:00 to 17:00),

Therefore, the total energy generated 10(hours) * 165 (KW) = 1650 units.

College working hours = 8 hours.

The extra generated Energy is fed to the grid through bi- directional meter.

1650(units) – 1324(units) = 326 units daily is fed to grid. 9

Without Battery
Cost of each 250W solar panel = Rs 8250/-
Panel required for 165KWp Solar Power Plant = 690 Nos
The total panel cost is = 690 * 8250 = Rs 56, 92, 500 /-.
the total cost for the inverters (2Nos of 80Kw and 1No of 10KW) = Rs 15, 71, 610 /-
Total cost module mounting structure is 165 * 5000 = Rs 8, 25,000 /-
Total cost Junction boxes + Protection is 165 * 2000 = Rs 3, 30, 000 /-
Total cost of cables is 165 * 3000 = Rs 4, 95, 000 /-
Total cost of electrical works is 165 * 4000 = Rs 6, 60, 000/-
Other formalities cost is 165 * 7950 = Rs 13, 11, 750/-
The total estimated cost for installation of 165KWp Solar Power Plant is Rs 1, 05, 55, 860/-

11
With Battery
250kwp,24v solar panel we can store completely in 10Ah battery
No of battery required=690 Nos
Each battery of 10Ah capacity costs Rs 1500/-
Total cost of battery = 690*1500 = Rs 10,35,000

The total estimated cost for installation of 165KWp Solar Power Plant with Battery is,
1, 05, 55, 860 + 10,35, 000 = Rs 1, 15, 90, 860

12
Energy wastage during Lunch Break

During the Span of 1 hour lunch break,

Energy wastage due to following Equipments:
No of fans(80W) = 97 Nos
No of tubes(40W) = 43 Nos
Total energy wastage during lunch break time=(43*40)+(97*80)=9480w
For one month=9.48*24=227.52 unit
According to the monthly electricity bill(HT installation) of PA college of engineering it
cost 8.77p.u. therefore,
227.52 (Units) * 8.77 = Rs 2000/-

ONE UNIT OF ELECTRICITY SAVED = TWO UNITS OF ELECTRICITY GENERATED

CONCLUSION
RESULT
Availability of solar energy = 10 hours (from 07:00 to 17:00),
Therefore, the total energy generated 10(hours) * 165 (KW) = 1650 units.

College working hours = 8 hours.

The extra generated Energy is fed to the grid through bi- directional meter.

1650(units) – 1324(units) = 326 units daily is fed to grid.

According to Karnataka Electricity Regulation Commission (KERC) tariffs for units supplied to the
grid generated from the rooftop solar power plant is,

Rs 7.20 pu, for the plant that avail subsidy given by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
(MNRE).
Rs 9.56 pu, for the plant that do not claim the subsidy from MNRE.

Daily saving with subsidy = Rs 7.20 * 326 = Rs 2347.2/-

Yearly saving on college working days without subsidy =2347.2 * 24 * 10 = Rs 5,63,328 /-

Daily saving without subsidy = Rs 9.56 * 326 = Rs 3116.56/-

Yearly saving on college working days without subsidy =3116.56 * 24 * 10 = Rs 7, 47, 974 /-
Pay back period in comparison with grid
• The Cost of the System = Rs 1, 05, 55, 860/-
• Saving with Grid :
Yearly saving because of no electric bill from MESCOM = Rs 27, 25, 000/-
Yearly saving on college working days without subsidy = Rs 7, 47, 974 /-
Total savings per year = Rs 34, 72, 974 /-

• Pay back period with grid is = 3.5 Years

15
Green Calculation with Grid

• For Producing 1 Unit of Electricity their is emission of 0.6 kg of Co2in atmosphere.

• Contribution for reducing Co2 from atmosphere is by,

Monthly Energy consumption = 31, 775 units
Reduction of Co2 per month = 31, 775 * 0.6 Kg = 19, 065Kg
Reduction of Co2 per Year = 19, 065Kg * 10 = 1, 90, 650 Kg

16
