What is the process called when a solid
turns into a gas?
Keywords: Force diagrams, resultant, stationary
Task 1: Think, Pair, Share

• You have already identified a force that is

acting on the objects below
• Suggest what the other force is acting on the
objects below
– Forming their interaction pairs

Gravity

Friction
Upthrust
Interaction pairs
Every force has an opposite force working against it.
We call forces working against each other interaction
pairs.

Air resistance

Gravity
Unbalanced forces
When one force in an interaction pair is bigger than the opposing force
they become unbalanced.
The object that the bigger force acts on will move in that direction.

Example:

5N 20N

Which way will the particle move?

How strong will the force moving it be?
Resultant forces
An object may have several different forces
acting on it, which can have different strengths
and directions.
They can be added together to give
the resultant force.
If the resultant force of an object is 0N how
would the object move?
On your whiteboards!!!
Write the direction the particle will
move and the resultant force.
