PATIENTS’RIGHTS CHARTER
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 1. Right to access health care;
• Health care shall include promotive, preventive,
reproductive, rehabilitative.
• 2. Right to receive emergency treatment
in any health facility;
• Irrespective of the patients’ ability to pay, treatment to
stabilize patients condition shall be provided
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• . 3. Right to be informed on all the
provisions of one’s medical scheme/health
insurance policy:
• Client is entitled to know all privileges accorded and is
entitled to challenge the contents where necessary

• . 4. Right to choose a healthcare provider;


• Clients shall not be unduly restricted by third parties so
long as the provider of choice is qualified, registered,
retained and in current good standing with regulatory
authority.
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 5. Right to the highest attainable quality
of health care products and services;
• Every person has the right to the highest attainable
quality of healthcare products and services.
• 6. Right to refuse treatment;
• Client may refuse, withdraw or withhold treatment
and this will be documented in writing by the medical
service provider in the presence of an independent
witness so long as it does not cause an immediate
danger to the client/patient.
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 7. Right to confidentiality;
• This shall be upheld except where consent has been
expressly given or disclosure is allowed by law or in
the public interest.

treatment
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 9. Right to information;
• Client has right to full and accurate information
regarding their disease and treatment
• 10. Right to be treated with respect and
dignity
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 11. Right to a second medical opinion
• 12. Right to complain about the health
services to the relevant authorities
Every person, patient or client,
has a:
• 13. Right to insurance coverage without
discrimination on the basis of age,
pregnancy, disability, illness including
mental disorders
• 14. Right to donate his or her organs
and/or any other arrangements/wishes
upon ones demise
