Saber Aboulfadl .
• Language aquisition is believed to be
an inborn process and that children need
only a certain level of language experience
to develop basic abilities. Also this
language developement needs an exposure
to adequate language models as well as an
interactive and supportive environment.
• So how does the children aquire
language basices since birth ? And
how do they develop it ?
• Young babies start collecting a
standard language set through the sounds
they hear arround them, and they make a
wide range from all possible sounds in
their early sound play or so-called
"babbling" by the age of 1 year old.
• By the age of school entry (5 years old)
children can still face some difficulties
with a bunch of words pronunciation, but
by the age of eight children are accurate
about 90 per cent, although boys take a
year longer than girls to develop a mature
phonological system.
• Many studies prooved that babies
pronounce their first words at the age of 9
months and at the age of 18 months their
vocabulary suddenly increases in term of
words production to achieve 200 word by
the age of 2 years old.
• A much more rapid development in general
vocabulary take place when the children are in
school, which adds thousands of new words to
their vocabulary every year but there be a
significant difference betwen the age they
learned those words (receptive vocabulary) and
the age they starts using them freely (expressive
• vocabulary), and of course children may
still use some words in sentences they
learned as whole even though they dont
understand it yet.
• However, it seems that not only formal

teaching that manages to increase

children's vocabulary, it appears that even
informal teaching such as educational tv
programms and conversations plays a
huge role in increasing children
vocabulary.
• Children since their early age starts
putting words together like using pivots
words such as ''more'', and applying
grammar rules such as adding -ed yo the
end of verbs to turn them into past tense,
• this can lead em to an inapropriate use of those

rules that's why parents pay attention to the

meaning of what their children say not to the

structure .
• As a conclusion for Our subject, human brain
remains an incredible mystery and a special
organ which processes many informations and
builds up his own data base such as language
use, attitude and many other things in our daily
life .
