Aim & Objective

 Aim:
• Aim of our project is to Analyze the data for absorbed CO 2 in the suitable
solvents containing Amines and Design the Absorber

 Objective:
• To study data Of CO2 in Amines by Reactive absorption
• To study the research papers regarding reactive absorption of CO 2 and VLE For
stripping
• To Calculate Different Parameters like Loading,Reactivity,Rate of Reaction
Introduction

• Due to Increase in the consumption of Energy : Various Gases emitted to

the atmosphere.

• Fossil Fuel power plants are responsible for roughly 40% of total CO 2
emissions.

• Absorption Of CO2 is necessary as it can create Climate change.

• The Word Climate Change means It can increase the Temperature of Earth
by absorbing infrared photon and then releasing it into atmosphere

• Due to above reasons CO2 should not get emitted to the Atmosphere
Introduction to Reactive absorption

• Among the existing technologies for CO2 removal, absorption is one of the
most suitable technology.

• Reactive Absorption means to absorb the paticular gas or vapour in the

suitable solvent by Reacting

• Carbon dioxide capture is an important option for reducing greenhouse gas

emissions and fighting the global climate change.

• Among the existing technologies for CO2 removal, absorption and

stripping is one of the most suitable technology.
Solvent Selection For Absorbtion

• Solvent should be selected based upon the properties such as,

1. Recoverability
2. Reactivity
3. Loading

• There is no solvent which contain all the properties that is desirable.

• Hence in all literature we have gone through using the mixture of Two
solvents
Closed Loop Absorption Desorption System
 The Meaning of Closed Loop System involves both,
1. Absorption Of Gas into solvent
2. Desorption Of Gas From Solvent ( Recovery of Solvent)

• All Solvents are not able to recoverable by Desorption

• So We have to select different types of Solvent according to the ability to

get recover

• Co2 is mainly Acidic in Nature So We Have To Select Solvent that is in

Basic Nature

• We can Select Amine’s Solvent or NaOH or anyone that is basic in nature

• But, the Ability of NaOH to get recover is very low .So that, We can not
recover a high amount of NaOH

• Hence due to Cost factor We are not going to take NaOH as a Solvent
Introduction to VLE

• Vapour Liquid Equilibrium describes the distribution of species between

liquid and vapour.

• The Equibrium data of a species varies With Temp. and Pressure.

• To represent Equilibrium data:Following Plots are use;.

1. Boiling Point Diagram (T-x-y)P
2. Pressure Composition Diagram (P-x-y)T
3. Equilibrium Curve (x-y)
 For Which Purpose VLE is used?

• VLE is used For Designing.

 Why VLE?

• Because Equilibrium is the Final condition at which opration takes place

• So , At Equilibrium Concentration of Component is maximum in Liquid

and Vapour Phase
VLE In Terms Of Stripping

• As the Solvent Absorb desired amount of CO 2 : For Recovery it will pass

through the Stripping Section

• In Stripping Section:CO2 get desorbed from solvent .

• It can be desorbed to a paticular Concentration at a Temp. and pressure

• This particular Concentration is the Equilibrium Concentration

• Now the Solvent recovered will fed to the Absorber coloum with
equilibrium concentration of CO2 based upon which designing of Absorber
takes place
