Explanation

Explanation is used to deliver information, concept or

contents of lesson to the students, usually during
eliciting idea.
Usually teacher explains the teaching content by using
examples, illustration or teaching resources.
For example, a teacher explains the life cycle of a frog
using diagram illustration.
During explanation, teacher writes the main points on
the white board so that students understands and
records in their note books.
Principle of Explanation Technique

Plan the teaching activity with suitable

examples and illustration. The teaching
resources should be prepared early before
enter class.

The time allocated for explanation should be

short. The students will feel bore if listen to a
long explanation. In order to sustain students
interest, stimulus variation can be applied.
Principle of Explanation Technique

Relate the explanation with students previous

knowledge so that students can follow the lesson
easily.

The time allocated for explanation should be short. The

students will feel bore if listen to a long explanation. In
order to sustain students interest, stimulus variation
can be applied.

Encourage students to ask question after the

explanation section.
Objective of Explanation Technique

1. To deliver information or explain the teaching contents

in a short time.
2. To simplify students’ understanding of concept or
content of a lesson clearly.
3. To explain a process or procedure . For examples,
explain the experiment procedure or steps involve in
solving a mathematical problem.
4. To explain the causes of an event or to predict the
probability of an incident happened.
Effects of Using Explanation
Technique on T & L
 Students can understand concept and
content easier, faster and more accurate.

 Students can understand some process or

procedure with detail and organize.

 Students can concentrate onto teachers’

teaching activity if the explanation is
interesting and meaningful.
Effects of Using Explanation
Technique on T & L
 Examples of illustration and teaching material
can stimulate various students’ sensory organ
as well as enable concept understanding easier
and strengthen what had been explained in
their mind.

 Teacher’s activity time can be shorten and it can

be use to add on students’ learning activity.
Components of Explanation Technique
Teachers’ explanation:
•Arise and maintain students’ focus.
Starting
•Arise students’ readiness to study.
direction
•Clear, short and precise.

Use of example or resource in learning

•Sufficient examples or resources.
Components Illustration •Appropriate examples or resources.
of skill •Clear and interesting examples or resources
explaining •Effectiveness of managing examples or resources
skill
Management of explaining skill
Arrangement •Idea be developed systematically.
of idea •Variation of stimulus been used successfully.
•Oral explanation clear and precise .

Summary/conclusion
Closing •Important contents been stated in written
•Important contents been arranged systematically.
•Closing statement short, precise and clear.
CLOSURE TECHNIQUE
• Last section in teaching and learning activities.
• Activities such as summarize, reinforcement and
evaluation is normally use.
• It helps students to reinforcement concept or new skill
they had learned through summarization or giving
them exercise.
• To evaluate effectiveness of the teaching and learning
process.
• It divided into two types :
– Cognitive Closure
– Social Closure
CLOSURE TECHNIQUE

COGNITIVE CLOSURE
SOCIAL CLOSURE

To reinforce all teaching content and skills that

students had learned.
 it can be done by :
 summarize activities • The objective is to satisfy students
 reinforcement activities achievement to ensure that they are
 re-exercise activities interested in learning.

• Normally its use reinforcement technique

STEPS IN IMPLEMENTATION
1. Make summarizes and conclusion on what had learned
by write down important note on white board
2. Give a written exercise to students (in exercise book or
exercise sheet).
3. Give an enrichment activities to students
4. Ask students the important content that they had learned.
The Principle Using Closure Technique

1. Closure should suitable with an objective, a content

and a new skill that students learned at development
stage.
2. Summarize, reinforcement and re-exercise activities
need to plan systematically to make sure cognitive
closure can be carried out perfectly.
3. Besides cognitive closure, social closure also need
to carry out in the end of lesson.
4. Except reinforcement and re-exercise activities,
cognitive and social closure should finish not more 5
minutes.
5. Evaluation activities can be used in the end of
lesson to evaluate achievement of lesson objectives.
OBJECTIVES OF CLOSING SKILLS

Prepared by;
Muhammad Khalil Yahaya
OBJECTIVES OF CLOSING SKILLS

 There are five objectives that use in micro-

teaching.

1. Ensure closing skills become effective which it would give

student clearly understand the topic and they know and
try to imagine how they learn.

2. To give student clearly know and understand the concepts

as well as develop new skills. They also can summary
and do writing what they learn.
OBJECTIVES OF CLOSING SKILLS

3. To motivate the student with shows the situation that

previous student successful in their study by using
enforcement technique.

4. Using evaluation activities to evaluate learning objective

(LO) and teaching and learning activities, to give student
think widely and modify in the future learning.

5. Lastly, closing objectives can give student apply the

concepts and new skills with the opportunity given.
IMPLICATION

TEACHING & LEARNING PROCESS

 If closing skills of objectives would achieve with

higher satisfies, teacher should be able;

1. To create more activities to student that they can be

master in the topic base on the concepts and at the same
time develop new skills.

2. As a conclusion according to the cognitive learning,

student can summaries the important facts that they are
learn.
IMPLICATION

TEACHING & LEARNING PROCESS

3. Using the social conclusion such as to give an
achievement feeling to student so that they would motivate
to try and always effort in what they do.

4. Through the assessment activity , teacher can determine

the achievement of the learning objective. This
assessment result can drive teacher for using the suitable
method and lesson plan for the next lesson.
