Purpose
 The purpose of the Manager’s Report is to
provide an overview of the progress and
current statistics related to the operation of
Dallas Animal Services.

Community Outreach
 Outreach efforts for October through
November 2010 included:
 8 Events
 7 Community presentations
 3 Shelter tours
 3 Schools
 23 Responsible Pet Ownership classes in English
and Spanish (39 attendees)
 Facebook page, Dallas Animal Services and
Adoption Center, was launched October 28.

Community Outreach Pictures
Howl-O-Ween Exall Recreation
Center

Howl-O-Ween was DAS’ first Halloween-themed event with animal welfare groups providing goodies and giveaways for pets, a pet parade contest with
local celebrities as judges, and door prizes.

Thanksgiving Camp at Exall Rec Center was an educational camp for kids during Thanksgiving break. The focus for one afternoon was animal
safety, including responsible pet ownership and bite prevention. The day was topped off by decorating dog biscuits for their pets.

Customer Survey Results
 A Customer Survey is conducted on an on-going basis at the Dallas Animal Shelter to
gain feedback from customers.
 312 individuals completed the survey between October 1, 2010, and November 30,
2010, and provided the following purposes for visiting the Animal Shelter:

 91% of those surveyed rated the “Cleanliness of the Shelter” and the “Condition of the
Animals” as Good or Excellent
 92.3% of those surveyed rated the “Service Received” as Good or Excellent
 301 would recommend the Dallas Animal Shelter to others
 70 individuals said that they would be interested in volunteering
 When asked how visitors learned about the animal shelter, the following responses

 A work instruction on reporting and documenting missing animals is currently under development.
 Inventory to kennel checks are being performed by supervisor to clear discrepancies

The current balance is approximately $140,901.

• Staff is initiating a review of this process and forms.

Recent Changes and Updates
 Feral cat dens, donated by Companions for Life, have been
added to all the cat cages in Lost and Found.
 Addition signage has been added to point citizens to areas
of adoptable animals that may have been overlooked.
 Daily roll calls have been implemented for field personnel.
 Personnel attended training classes hosted by SPCA on
animal handling.
 It is anticipated the Quality of Life (QOL) Committee will
consider allowing flexible adoption fees. This meeting is
currently scheduled for December 13, 2010.
 The HSUS Report was received on November 22, 2010.
The QOL Committee will be briefed during the scheduled
January 24, 2010 meeting.

 Providing care and comfort to the animals it serves

 Encouraging responsible pet ownership

 Enforcing local and State laws
