SOLAR POWER ENERGY(ENERGY

REVOLUTION)
A SUSTAINABLE INDIA ENERGY OUTLOOK

“Will we look into the eyes of our children and confess

that we had the opportunity,
but lacked the courage?
that we had the technology,
But lack the vision?”
Introduction to
Solar Energy

An overview of

the
technologies
and
applications

Let’s begin our overview of
Let’s begin our overview of
solar energy by asking:
solar energy by asking:
What
Whatdo
doyou
yousee
seehere?
here?

Take a close look –

is this the profile of a
beautiful young lady,
or the face of an ugly,
old woman?

They’re both here, but for a

variety of reasons that make
up your own individual
psychological make-up,
some of you see one
woman, some the other.

When people think of solar energy,
the same thing often happens.
Some see it as something for the
future, others see it as something
that is here today.

However, there are other people who think of solar
energy as something that’s been around for a long time.

For hundreds of years, people have wanted to harness
the sun’s power for weapons, heating, and many other
uses to make their lives more comfortable.

So which view of solar energy
-- for the future or for today –
is correct?

Probably a little of both.

Solar energy will certainly play an important role

in the future energy needs of our planet, but
it’s also here today and ready for hundreds of
uses in homes, businesses, and industry.

But we do know that growing public concern
about environmental problems . . .

including global warming, acid rain and toxic air emissions, has
in recent years turned a great deal of attention to
environmentally friendly solar energy systems.

Current sources of electricity generation in INDIA
Meanwhile, there is one energy source that is free and
inexhaustible. It’s like a giant nuclear reactor – only this
one is located 93 million miles away.

photovoltaic cells.
Advantages of solar power energy
 Solar energy is a renewable resource
 Solar energy is non-polluting
 Solar cells require very little maintenance
 solar panels or solar lights are very easy to
install
 Solar cells are totally silent.
 May be expensive to buy at the onset, you can
save money in the long run.
Disadvantages of solar energy:
 Solar cells/panels, etc. can be very expensive.
 Solar power cannot be created at night.
Government’s hand towards
solar power energy
“We will poll our scientific ,technical and managerial
talents, with financial sources,to develop solar energy as a
source of abundant energy to power our economy and to
transform the lives of our people”

--Prime minister of india

 Government appears positive to simplify solar
power equipment import and offer special
bank loan for its import and installation.
 Withdrawal of tax on solar panel equipment.
 Withdrawal duty and VAT on import of solar
power equipment .
 World bank and state bank is providing loan
for installment of solar panel .
 Research has been continuing for reduction of
cost of solar cell.
