Flex time
 An arrangement by which employees may
set their own work schedules, especially
their starting and finishing hours called
flexitime.
 Flextime is one of several alternative work
options that can help you balance your life.
 Employees may have a schedule that
involves working four-ten hour days or may
work a staggered schedule.
Importance of flextime
 For employers, flextime can aid the
recruitment and retention of staff.
 It can also help provide staff cover outside
normal working hours and reduce the need
for overtime.
 Additionally flextime can also improve the
provision of equal opportunities to staff
unable to work standard hours.
Flextime Options
 1. Job sharing

 E.g.
 Two workers usually each work half time,
comprising one full-time equivalent (FTE)
employee.

2. Allows for employees to work different
hours, which usually involves them coming
in to work either earlier or later .
E.g.

 Instead of working 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

flextime employees might work 7
a.m. to 4 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

3. Allows employees to alternate between a
four-day week and then a five-day week,
thus permitting a traditional two-day
weekend followed by an extended three-day
weekend.
E.g.

 Employees can work ten days straight

(including weekends) and then enjoy four

consecutive days off,
Or they can work four, ten-hour days every

week and then have three consecutive days

off.
4. In companies with peak periods, such as
accounting firms or tourist businesses,
employees can work many more than forty
hours each week during the busy season(s),
and then enjoy shorter weeks in the less-
busy season(s).
5. Employees can work at home all or part

time and in the office part time. This plan

allows employees to mix the quiet or comfort
of home with the dynamics at the office.

sophisticated software to handwritten
time sheets.
 Most of these methods are associated with
the payment of wages in return for hours
worked.

Potential Flextime Negatives
 The downside of flextime is that it can
sometimes prove tricky for managers.

of flextime, chances are that other
members of the organization will quickly
find out that it's not a feasible option given
their particular position.
 Difficulties with employee communication.
 Parse staffing during some hours.
