SEMI-CONTROLLED CD(B)
STORAGE
1. All controlled medicines ( Narcotics, CDA & CDB medicines)
must be stored in a locked cupboard. This is the requirement in
the pharmacy, store and in any clinical area where the drugs are
stored.

2. In the pharmacy or store access to this cupboard must be


controlled by a named responsible person.

3. In the clinical area access to this cupboard must be controlled


by the person incharge usually the nurse incharge of the shift,
but in operating theatres this may be an anesthetist.
RECORD MAINTAINANCE
1. HOSPITAL PHARMACY:
Must keep an up to date specimen signature record of the prescriber and
nurses who order Narcotic drugs.
Ensure that there is a program of internal Narcotics inspection at ward level
along with the needful permission from related authorities.

2. PRIVATE PHARMACIES:
Keep all invoices and prescriptions for CD-As for 5 years.

3. DRUG STORES:
Keep all invoices ( from vendors) and delivery notes for CD-As for 5 years.

4. PRIVATE CLINICS:
Private clinics and physicians must not keep samples of the contolled medicines.
