Troubleshooting Basics

Description:   This basic electrical training program teaches a proven systematic

approach to  troubleshooting circuits, called the "Five Step Troubleshooting
Approach." The process is explained using electrical circuit simulation, animated
graphics and text. Once familiar with the troubleshooting techniques you can
work through a section that guides you through this troubleshooting process on
a simple lighting circuit. You can then try to troubleshoot 30+ faults on the 6
lighting circuits. Some are common faults when wiring lights, others not so
common. Here the time and dollars used to solve the fault will be measured
and evaluated. The program also records all the steps performed to solve the
faults for later analysis of your troubleshooting approach.

Maintenance Troubleshooting
Relay Control Circuits

Description:   This electrical training program builds on the Troubleshooting

Electrical Circuits program. Here, you will increase your maintenance
troubleshoot skill with a more complex electrical control circuit consisting of
numerous relays, switches, lights, and solenoids. You will use the elementary
wiring schematic,  connection wiring diagrams and a volt ohm meter to
troubleshoot 50+ faults of varying difficulty. The program contains sections to
describe how the 2 circuit works as well as how to use the maintenance
troubleshooting tools. The program evaluates the time and money spent to
solve the fault and records all the steps performed to solve the fault. This can
be used for later analysis of your maintenance troubleshooting approach.

Troubleshooting Electrical
Motor Control Circuits (TMC)

Description:   This electrical plant maintenance training program builds on the

Troubleshooting Electrical Control Circuits  program. Here, you will troubleshoot 3
motor control circuits like the reversing motor controlled garage door. This circuit
contains such components as limit switches, three phase reversing motor starter,
push buttons, step down transformer, and safety switch. Elementary wiring
schematic and connection wiring diagrams will be used as an electrical
troubleshooting guide while you troubleshoot 50+ faults of varying difficulty. The
program contains sections to describe how the electrical motor control circuit
works as well as how to use the troubleshooting tools. The program evaluates the
time and money spent to solve the fault and records all the steps performed to
solve the fault. This can be used for later analysis of your troubleshooting approach
and makes this software a great choice for your school's electrical program or
maintenance technician training in general.

Advanced Troubleshooting
Industrial Control (TIC)

This simulation models fluid processing systems similar to systems found in

various industrial applications. This system consists of a variety of components
including a Pump, Agitator, Heaters, Motors, Transformers, Contactors, and
Overloads. The process control portion of the system consists of a variety of
components typically found in industrial control systems such as: Temperature,
Float, & Selector Switches, Relays, Timers, Pushbuttons, Solenoid Valves, Fuses,
and Indicators. The 51 built in faults to solve, simulate both electrical and
mechanical failures. Users can interact with the simulation just like a real system.
Users can operate the system remotely or locally. they can take voltage, resistance
and current measurements with a multi-meter, inspect, repair and replace
components, disconnect and ring out wires.

custom data monitor and the processor status file.
•Lesson 3: PLC Scan Cycle. How the PLC's looks at the logic and real world inputs and outputs.
•Lesson 4: An Event Recorder PLC Program. In this lesson we will cover on how to record and play back (in
sequence) an event or series of actions (inputs) then play them back as outputs. You will be recording up to 20
events, using FFL's and FFU's. Includes PLC ladder logic example to use in PLC. (.rss file)
•Lesson 5: Tracking Parts on a Conveyor Line. Learn how to track a part that is moving down a production line or
conveyor with the PLC, by tracking parts you can determine when to remove a rejected part for example.
Includes PLC ladder logic example to use in PLC. (.rss file)
•Lesson 6: Grinding Machine PLC Program. This lesson simulates a grinding machine by running a table up and
down and into the grinder (resurfacing grinder). Includes PLC ladder logic example to use in PLC. (.rss file)
•Lesson 7: Pump Sequence PLC Program. Turn on and rotate vacuum pumps depending on the wear (hrs ran)
and the need from production. Pump Sequencing, you will learn how to program a series of pumps and have
them automatically cycle on and off (one at a time), so you keep even ware on the pumps and cycle them
depending on and off depending on the pressure switch settings. Great introduction to real world of PLC
programming and trouble shooting. Includes PLC ladder logic example to use in PLC. (.rss file)

Conclusion

This probably seems like a push for this company but the real purpose of sharing this
power point is to try to help other Silver Flag Sites overcome some of their shortfalls .
This is Tyndall’s suggestion for closing some of the gaps in our hands on trouble shooting
piece. As you all well know, the ROWPU 1500 has PLC technology and the Dual
pumping station has VFD technology. You may not be teaching the exact PLC and VFD
but this sure gets us familiarization/experience on this type of equipment. It also covers
some lighting , branch, and motor controls circuits so those blocks will be filled as well.

I guess the real surprise is you can order one of each of these products shipped to your
location for well under the GPC max amount. Just go check it out and see what you
think. Ramstien is doing something similar with welding. We are not recommending
replacing real hands on with this but we are suggesting use this until funds drop for the
real thing. Another plus is it is safe and requires no arc flash gear and no equipment
maintenance.

If anyone has anything they would like to share with the other sites please do not
hesitate.
