IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP

Definition
An ASAP Roadmap represents a comprehensive
methodology that provides you with all the steps
needed to implement an SAP System. The standard
Implementation Roadmap has five major phases. Each
phase represents a major milestone in the project plan
methodology, and contains specific structure elements.
The Implementation Roadmap provides a standard
repeatable procedure for implementing an SAP System,
including project management, configuration of
business processes, as well as technical, testing and
training aspects.
•PROJECT PREPARATION – PHASE 1

•During Project Preparation you plan and

prepare the SAP project implementation by
defining your project goals and objectives, the
scope of your implementation, your
implementation strategy, the project
schedule, and implementation sequence. You
also set up the project team in this phase.
•BUSINESS BLUEPRINT – PHASE 2

•The purpose of this phase is to carry out

scoping for your project and use the Question
and Answer Database to create the Business
Blueprint Document, which is a detailed
documentation of business processes and other
implementation objectives identified during the
requirements workshop. In the generated
Business Process Master List (BPML), you can
define the Baseline scope and testing plans, as
well as refine the original goals and objectives
and the project schedule.
•REALIZATION – PHASE 3

•The purpose of this phase is to implement

business and process requirements contained in
the Business Blueprint in the SAP
Implementation Guide (SAP Customizing tables
and views) - which can be linked to from the
BPML - in order to configure the SAP System, as
well as to design end user documentation and
training material for your firm.
•FINAL PREPARATION – PHASE 4

•The purpose of this phase is to carry out end

user training, perform the final check of the
SAP System before going live, and to prepare
and implement the transfer of legacy data
into the SAP production system. This phase
also serves to resolve all crucial open issues.
•GO LIVE AND SUPPORT – PHASE 5

•The purpose of this phase is to move from a

pre-production environment to live
production operation, to set up a Help Desk
to provide long-term support for end users,
optimize overall system performance and
the technical environment. You also use this
phase to plan follow-up training, upgrades,
and define ways to continually optimize the
SAP System.
