WHAT IS COMPUTER
 What is Computer

A Computer is a programmable machine that receives

input, stores and manipulates data, and provides output in
a useful format.
• A Machine is a
device that uses
energy to perform
some activity.
A Data is anything in a form suitable for use with a
computer.
 What is Computer Science

Computer science (sometimes abbreviated CS) is

the study of the theoretical foundations of information
and computation and of practical techniques for their
implementation and application in computer systems.
Information, in its most restricted technical sense,
is an ordered sequence of symbols.
Computation is a general term for any type of
process, algorithm
Information processing is the change of
information in any manner detectable by an observer.
An algorithm is an
effective method for solving
a problem expressed as a
finite sequence of steps.
 What is Hardware & Software

Hardware: The term hardware covers all of those

parts of a computer that are tangible objects.
Circuits, displays, power supplies, cables, keyboards,
printers and mice are all hardware.

Software refers to parts of the computer which do

not have a material form, such as programs, data,
etc.
