Defenition
Virtualization is a broad term that refers to the abstraction of resources across many aspects of computing For our purposes - One physical machine to support multiple virtual machines that run in parallel.
Why Virtualization ?
Too many servers for too little work Aging hardware reaching end of usable life High infrastructure requirements Limited flexibility in shared environments
VIRTUALIZATION
Cloud computing evolved from virtualization an approach that enabled more flexible IT infrastructures and lower IT costs. The major type of virtualization is hardware virtualization, which remains popular and widely used. Virtualization is often a key part of an enterprises disaster recovery plan. virtualization separates business applications and data from hardware resources

Virtualization increases the flexibility of IT assets, allowing companies to consolidate IT infrastructure, reduce maintenance and administration costs, and prepare for strategic IT initiatives. Virtualization is not primarily about cost cutting virtualization is used because it enables flexible sourcing and cloud computing
Types of Virtualization
Storage virtualization is the pooling of physical storage from multiple network storage devices into a single storage device, managed from a central console. Network virtualization combines the available resources in a network by splitting the network load into manageable parts, assigned to a particular server on the network. Hardware virtualization is the use of software to emulate hardware or a total computer environment other than the one the software is actually running in. It allows a piece of hardware to run multiple operating system images at once. This kind of software is sometimes known as a virtual machine.

Streamline IT Management
The storage and execution of a desktop workload (OS, apps, data) is centralized on a virtual machine in the datacenter Presentation of the UI is managed via a remote desktop protocol (such as RDP or ICA) to client devices
Desktop Workload (OS, Apps, Data)
Agile and secure access users desktops, rich remote experience and improved business Availability
A comprehensive and cost-effective means to deploy user desktops, applications and data within a VDI environment
Applications get the resources they need when they need them
