Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla in Colombia on February 2, 1977. She is a singer song write who has won three Grammys and eight Latino Grammys. Her debut album Magia was released by Sony Music in 1990 when she was only thirteen years old. The songs in this collection were written by her since the age of eight and feature a mix of pop rock, romance and disco with electronic accompaniment. However, it was not well marketed. Despite much rotation on Colombian radio stations, giving exposure to the young Shakira, the album was not a commercial success even though the music video Magia became the number one pop video in Colombia. Her second album, Peligro, in the same genre, was released in 1993, but Shakira was not satisfied with the final result, principally in regards to the production. The album was better received than Magia, but it likewise enjoyed little commercial success due to Shakiras refusal to advertise it. In the same year, Shakira starred in the Colombian TV series The Oasis. Shakira returned to the studio in 1995 with Luis F. Ochoa and the musical influences of various countries that affected some of her previous albums. She recorded her third studio album, Pies Descalzos. Recording began in February of 1995 after the success of her single Dnde Ests Corazn?.The album was released internationally on February 13. 1996.

( Where Are the Thieves? ) was produced on September 28. 1998 in Miami. The album was inspired by an incident that occurred at the airport when a suitcase full of lyrics was stolen. Whenever, Wherever ( released under the title Suerte in Spanish ) was the first single Shakiras English language album, released in October 200. A live DVD/CD called Live & Off The Record was released in 2004. Shakira stayed out of the public eye for two years. Many record release dates were canceled and she announced the project Oral Fixation at the beginning of 2005. Two tracks from the album, How Do You Do and Timor, provoked some controversy upon release in Muslim countries. The cover of the album featuring Shakira dressed as Eve with the forbidden fruit was also considered controversial and had to be altered in various countries. Shakira embarked on her fourth tour, her longest, The Oral Fixation Tour, in June of 206. On July 2, 2008, she signed a ten year contract with Live Nation.
