Pashmina shawl is a textile made from a fine type of cashmere wool and costs around 10,000 each shawl
Amlikar Shawl
It s a combination of two different traditional
activities

Art of ceiling making by fitting small pieces of wood into each other in geometrical patterns
Papier Mache
Art of making decorations from light weight products like paper pulp and further embellished with hand painting of traditional designs
Kaleen
These are the hand knotted carpets made from silk.It is weaved used a coded language known as Taleem
Namdha
It is traditionally processed wool len or wool plus cotton rugs with chain stitched embroided patterns
Geographical Indication
The
term GI has been defined as an indication which defines such goods as agricultural, natural or manufactured goods as originating goods or manufactured in the territory of a country, or a region or a locality in that country where a given quality, reputation or other characteristics of such goods is essentially attributed to its geographical origin.
22 of the TRIPS Agreement says that all governments must provide legal opportunities in their own laws for the owner of a GI registered in that country to prevent the use of marks that mislead the public as to the geographical origin of the goods.
Problems Faced
Only one good(Pashmina Shawl) is registered under GIs Selling of pirated Kashmiri shawls in Amritsar and other places under the tag Kashmiri Shawls Copying of Khatambandh art work by workers of Saharanpur Government has taken no action
Conclusion
The handicrafts of Kashmir represent Kashmiri heritage and pride These have economic as well as employment incentives Government should provide Infrastructural, financial and Logistic support to the craftsmen More Kashmiri handicrafts should be registered under GIs Pirated Kashmiri shawls should be banned
