ROLE OF A TRAINER
A trainers role is not just a single function. It consists of a multitude of expectations from various sources, such as the organization, operational business units, training heads, participants and customers. These expectations can be grouped in to a few sub roles for the trainer.

ROLES OF TRAINER
CO ORDINATOR of programmes DESIGNER of new materials and methods ENABLER of learning FACILITATOR of processes MENTOR of participants PROVIDER of content RESEARCHER of systems and procedures RESOURCE of learning management system ROLE MODEL of operating staff

CO ORDINATOR ROLE

INVOLVES Organizing and arranging the programme Preparing time table and materials Allotting sessions to other trainers Monitoring lecture hall readiness Holding of cultural/other programmes Overseeing catering, hostel and other facilities Inviting guest speakers Submitting reports/feedback

DESIGNER ROLE

INVOLVES Gathering of latest information/instructions Updation on developments in training Creation of new means/modes of delivery Development of new tools for learning Piloting/testing of innovations Spreading the new and institutionalizing

ENABLER ROLE

INVOLVES Providing a learning environment Supplying reading materials Encouraging the use of library/CLC Welcoming discussions/interactions Making email ID/mobile number available Acting as a conduit to ideas of participants

FACILITATOR ROLE

INVOLVES Understanding group dynamics Managing group processes Encouraging functional behaviour Discouraging dysfunctional behaviour Engineering team formation Harnessing team energies for learning

MENTOR ROLE

INVOLVES Offering services as mentor Having a clear vision for protges/mentees Maintaining a detached yet supportive stance Limiting or defining the boundaries of the role Imparting organizational culture/values Encouraging personal growth not dependence

PROVIDER ROLE

INVOLVES Gathering and spreading knowledge Creating new power points/hand outs Writing articles/case studies/study material Acting as subject matter expert for e-learning Reading and sharing latest developments Networking for sharing materials

RESEARCHER ROLE

INVOLVES Learning research methodology Learning project report preparation Taking up research projects Studying various areas and aspects of banking Bringing out research findings/papers/reports Compiling book condensations/reviews

RESOURCE ROLE

INVOLVES Assisting the Learning Management System Joining various projects/initiatives Disseminating information for management Advocating change Contributing to think tanks/ideation groups Providing suggestions for training system Contributing/gathering data for studies

ROLE MODEL ROLE



INVOLVES Projecting a high image of the Bank Presenting the training system in a good light Presenting oneself with dignity Representing corporate values in action Advocating corporate culture consistently Exhibiting maturity and self control Showing team orientation/leadership

CONCLUSION
A successful trainer is one who is able to do justice to all the sub roles within ones larger role as trainer. Anyone can be good at one or two of the total demands made on one. It is the effort to do well across all the expectations/demands made on one which makes for an outstanding trainer.
