Name of the work:-CONSTRUCTION OF FLEXIBLE

PAVEMENT AT THE PAOTA ROAD NEAR DISTRICT HOSPITAL,JODHPUR.

DEPARTMENT:-PUBLIC WORK DEPARTMENT

(PWD),CITY DIVISION JODHPUR

CONSULTANT:-SHREE CONSTRUCTION PVT.LIMITED

TYPES OF HIGHWAY CONSTRUTION Earth road and Gravel road

Water bound macadam road

Bituminous or black-top roads Cement Concrete road

TYPES OF PAVEMENT

Rigid Pavement

Semi-rigid Pavement
Composite Pavement

TYPICAL CROSS SECTOIN OF FLEXIBLE AND RIGID PAVEMENT

Component of Flexible pavement

Soil subgrade-soil subgrade is a layer of natural

soil to receive the layer of pavement material placed over it. Sub-Base-sub-base course a layer of stabilized soil or selected granular soil. It consists of broken stone, bound or unbound aggregate. Base course-The function of base course is similar to sub base .It also consists of fine aggregate and soil-aggregate mixes.

Surface course-This also known as wearing course. The purpose of wearing course is to give a
smooth riding surface that is dense

Reasons for Providing Camber in Roads

To prevent the entry of water into bituminous layer.
To remove the rain water from the pavement surface as

quickly as possible To allow pavement to get dried soon after the rain. To prevent the entry of surface water into the subgrade soil through pavement.

CBR TEST

CBR FORMULA
The C.B.R. value is calculated using the relation:Load sustained by the specimen at 2.5 or 5 mm penetration CBR % = Load sustained by standard aggregate at the corresponding penetration level

x 100

IMPACT TEST
This test is designed to

evaluate the resistance of an aggregate to sudden impact. Since vehicle loads cause impact, this test gives an indication of the performance of aggregates to resist crushing under impact. The test has been standard (IS: 2386 Part IV). The IRC specifications also indicate the minimum acceptable values as per this test.

CAUSE OF PAVEMENT FALIURE

Defect of the quality of material used. Defect in construction method and quality control

during construction. Inadequate surface or subsurface drainage in the locality resulting in the stagnation of water in the pavement layer. Increase in the magnitude of wheel load and number of load repetitions due to increase in traffic volume. Settlement of foundation of embankment of the fill material itself. Environmental factor including heavy rain ,soil erosion, high water table snow fall ,frost actio.
