Hard Lesson

By mid 90s, getting 50% of revenues from GE. Soon GE contracted with other companies offering lower cost. To hold GE business, Wipro found to improve operating efficiency. 1st Indian company who adopted 6 sigma process.

GE Expand Operations

GE used India as a base for data entry ,

processing credit cards applications and other clerical tasks performed over internet.

This cuts GEs operating cost by $ 300 million/ year.

Wipro was a major beneficiary of GEs work in India.

Wipro Expand Operations

By 2005, 39000 employees engaged in technology oriented tasks. Through internet, Wipro maintain software applications for companies all over the world in real time. Wipros customers include GE along with HP, Home Depot, Nokia , Sony and Weyerhaeuser.

Value Addition

Wipro is moving upstream into high value applications such as, - in 2002, a signed a deal for storage devices. - in 2004, took responsibility for all development work in Minneapolis , - establishing global supply chain or billing system for large corporations like IBM
