Complicated clinical treatment requires intensive training geared to the specific content, the providers base knowledge, and the clinical setting. The Pennsylvania/MidAtlantic AETC has been in the forefront of training primary care providers on assessment, treatment, prevention, and specialty care for persons with HIV disease and those at risk. Our program has placed emphasis on reaching dentists and other dental practitioners who are in the forefront of providing dental treatment to these individuals. Dental health professionals, as members of the HIV treatment team are critical in assessment and ongoing oral health care. Dental health for HIV patients contributes to their well being and improves their quality of life. This is the rationale for our outreach to dental health professionals and the reason for the development of this document. We hope that, Dental Management of Patients with HIV/AIDS: Concepts 2002" will prove useful to dental health professionals as they move forward with improving both the quality of and access to dental care for those with HIV disease.
