WHAT ARE #HASHTAGS?

Hashtags are active links that are created when you precede any word or phrase with the # symbol on Twitter. They are used to help organize Tweets by specific topics. When you click on a hashtag, you are directed to a list of real -time search results of Tweets using that particular phrase. The most popular current hashtags are usually displayed under Trending Topics. Using hashtags in a Tweet makes it easier for others to find your Tweet when searching for Tweets of a particular topic. Example: the hashtags when Tweeting about the LATISM 11 conference are #LATISM11 and #LATISM. (Lets help make these Trending Topics, eh?)

The influx of MJ-related searches on Twitter caused the sites servers to crash temporarily.
