Input devices are pieces of equipment that are used to put data into a computer. Input devices allow us to enter raw data into a computer . The computer processes the information and then produces outputs that we can understand using an output device.

A keyboard is a human interface device which is represented as a layout of buttons. The keyboard is a way to input letters or numbers into different applications or programs. A keyboard also has a special key that help operate the computer.

The mouse is used to open and close files, navigate web sites and click on a lot of commands (to tell the computer what to do) when using different application.

A joystick is an input device consisting of stick that pivots on abase and direction to the device it is controlling. Joysticks usually have one or more push buttons.

A touch screen is a display that can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The term generally refers to touch or contact to the display of the device by a finger or hand. Like mobile phones, personal assistant(PDA).

A Scanner is used to copy pictures or other things and save them as files on the computer.

OCR uses an ordinary scanner to take a photographic image of printed or even hand-written text. Special software then looks at the image, recognition each character and converts it into a text.

The bar code item is swiped over a laser scanner is over the bar code to in the data. It is the same as a scanner but due to the simple nature of the bar code the scanning is very rapid.

OMR similar to a bar code reader but uses infra-red light to scan pencil marks on prepared forms such as multiple-choice examination answer sheet or lottery.

MICR uses ink containing magnetic particle. This method is used by banks to print on a cheque the amount that it is made out for, than it is scanned into a computer

A voice command device is a device controlled by means of the human voice. By removing the need to use buttons, dials and switches, consumer can easily operate appliances while doing other task. Speech recognition converts spoken words to text

An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) to the outside world
