Why Energy Conservation ?

What are our main energy sources?

Most of this energy comes form fossil fuels which are burnt in power stations. These fossil fuels formed millions of years ago, and are non-renewable. Once the fossil fuels have been used up there will be no more to replace them.

Problems with burning fossil fuels

Problems with burning fossil fuels Huge amounts of

carbon dioxide are given off into the atmosphere Carbon dioxide causes global warming or the greenhouse effect coal-burning power stations also give off sulphur dioxide & Nitrous oxide gas which leads to acid rain

GREEN HOUSE EFFECT

What are the problems with global warming?

The average temperature of the Earth will rise
This can lead to droughts

Extremes of weather will occur Tsunami and storms

Due to rise in sea level Low level island sinks

Coastal land erodes

Flood

Ozone Layer Depletion

Depletion process begins when CFCs used in refrigeration and air conditioning are emitted in to atm. After several years they reach ozone layer by diffusion. They react with ozone and destroy Ozone molecules

How Acid Rain Forms?

SO2 + H2O = Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) NOX + H2O = Nitric Acid (HNO2)

Impact of Acid Rain: Destruction of Historical Relic

A Photo in Europe A stone statue eaten by acid rain. Cultural and historical heritage is also being damaged by this kind of pollution.

Impact of Acid Rain

Benefits of Energy Conservation

For future generation To protect environment Reducing Global Warming To Avoid acid rain To Avoid ozone layer depletion

Optimizing generation to meet

demand For ones own benefit - Saving Energy is like time once wasted cant be regenerated money
