Proposal

Dean Jackson Moore

My Proposal
I would like my magazine to give a subtle sophistication yet I want it to be appealing to the younger generation. My target audience is young men & women aged between 18 and 26 with a social grade of B; I would want to appeal to social grades of B and A however I dont think it will be possible to create a magazine for A class citizens I want a young audience and with a young target audience I cant also create a social A grade magazine that they will find appealing. For my magazine I would like to have the masthead at the top of the page, I want it to be bold and eye catching so I can have my model over the mast head yet people will know exactly what theyre looking at. I want to have a similar colour scheme to this magazine too, I want a three colour, colour s scheme. Purple, white and black will be the colours I am going to choose to have in my colour scheme, doing this will appeal to the younger generation however it will also appeal to women more so then men so I will have to make the magazine more masculine somehow. I could use a male model or simply change the colour scheme from purple to a blue using a stereotypical colour to try and attract men in wanting to read my magazine. I want my magazine to be predominantly a fashion magazine however I would like to cover some music articles, but instead of having an interview with them all about their music I could interview them with questions about their fashion sense ect. Doing this will attract the women for the fashion and attract men for the music as if it was just fashion most men may not be comfortable buying fashion magazines on a regular bases. My magazine will be sold monthly for around 4.25, having it monthly will be cheaper for my regular readers as it will average out to a little over 1 a week for a high end fashion magazine with some music contents.

Codes & Conventions The things that will make my magazine will be the cover model and layout plus the colour scheme. All of that together should help me bring my magazine into a high class, successful and stylish magazine that will become very popular. We expect magazines to be fun and interesting to read plus we want it to give us what we want whether thats the latest fashion or lots of gossip of the newest music but thats all depending on other peoples opinions. With the gratifications theory I will find out the most popular mass communication through questionnaires and secondary research. Audience My main target audience is going to be women and especially men aged between 18 and 26 who enjoy fashion and music, however I will be aiming the magazine to people in a social grade B and above so that includes some students and young adults with a higher education and/or someone with disposable income as my magazine will be roughly 4.50 as most monthly magazines with high popularity tend to be quite expensive however mine will be a little less than some to attract more consumers with a lower price and therefore increasing sales. People tend to read magazines because they either want to know the latest gossip or fashion Ect. or people will read magazines because they are just bored or have nothing to do. So because of this I would like to have the back section for boredom in this section I would like to have a couple of brainteasers of funny photos. Continued On Next Slide.

Revenue generated from these methods helps pay operating expenses, allows publishers to make product improvements, and helps magazines survive and thrive. Representation The subject of my magazine will be presented on the front cover. Putting my main stories on the front cover will give my audience an idea on what my magazine is about for example, putting something appealing to a fashion conscious male and female aged eighteen to twenty-six years old a reason to buy my magazine. I will also have a few sell lines to attract my target audience, my cover model will be a young female around 18.

Vogue has many pages, around four hundred; Surprisingly a huge amount of these pages are advertisements from an even huger range of designer clothing brands such as Prada, Gucci and Burberry. In my magazine I will be designing something very similar to this having the first few pages and a couple in-between articles to be advertisements, doing so will make the magazine look thicker which would give it its designer feel which would link into the price of the magazine.

They have used a whole page for Kate Moss as shes the cover model and she's a very famous model so that will attract the attention of the Readers or passer bys due to the cover.

arget Audience
My target audience are going to be women aged 18 to 26 with social grades of B, I was thinking of C2 as well, however I would prefer to go up a grade rather than down as I would like to be advertising a more sophisticated magazine but I dont think I will be able to successfully reach social grades of A. My sub-target audience will be men aged 18 to 24, I would like for men to read my magazine too, however as its more of a fashion magazine, be stereotypical, I'm not sure men are going to want to read it unless it's got something on the cover to pull them in, so I'm going to have to think of some interesting sell lines. Both then men and women reading my magazine will generally have a great interest in fashion yet also enjoy music; this is because I would like to have a few music articles in my fashion magazine. Going from my research that I took I found out that most people would like to buy a magazine either every other week or monthly, from this I've decided to have a monthly magazine priced around 4.45; this is a little more then what my research told me however I dont want a cheap gossip magazine, I want a stylish fashion magazine. The music genre that I will be using is a indie genre with a mix of the top 40 songs of that month as well as having a small amount of indie music. The fashion section will always have a theme, this will always depend on what's fashionable at the time or depending on the month e.g. October could be have darker, over the top clothes.

esources Needed
Type Of Media
I will be creating a print magazine, I will be creating a fashion magazine with a small amount of music too. I will be doing this so my target audience will be greater and hopefully involve both genders.

Costing

Costing of equipment: Professional lighting will be around 450, Professional camera will also cost around 450, Green Screen will be around 200, White Drop Background 250, Photoshop CS3 25. The school will be providing all of this equipment for me to use in order to create a magazine; the front cover, a contents page as well as a double page spread and hopefully if I'm on schedule I will then create a pre double page spread. In the next two weeks I will be creating two tasks to go towards my planning of a magazine. Task one shall be completed in no more than three days, this task will need me to create a table highlighting the considerations for my magazine (this task). Task two, I will follow this task out until the day before the deadline as it is a very detailed task including my proposal, target audience, drafts and many more. The day before the deadline I will go through both tasks once again to make sure I have reached the best of my abilities. I will need a photographer to help take pictures however this will probably be myself. Models will be needed to create the front cover and images for the contents and double page spread; I will have three models, Emily, Charlotte, Eleni and a possible fourth, Levi. I will also need someone to help with the lighting to benefit the quality of the photographs. I will have a very wide range of software to help me create my magazine ranging from excel to Photoshop. I will have equipment to help me produce my magazine such as the lighting, professional cameras as well as large backdrops in white and black as well as a green screen to help with taking photos of my models. I will mainly be using Photoshop CS3 for the majority if creating the magazine, however I will be using PowerPoint to do all of the planning needed to organize this project. The Equipment I will be using to make my magazine will be the white backdrop, green screen, digital SLR camera, models and lighting equipment. I will spend most this will be done natural shot with or bright weather of my time on the school grounds either creating my magazine, planning or taking pictures; on the green screen as well as the white backdrop. I will go to a woodland area to great a a great scenery included instead of adding a background onto the background. If there is snow conditions I would like to walk to the golf course to take some photographs.

Codes Of Practice

My magazine must follow the rules set by PCC, they are a company who follow magazines very closely to make sure they dont offend the public or harass any member of the public. A statement on their website says "The PCC is an independent self-regulatory body which deals with complaints about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines (and their websites). We keep industry standards high by training journalists and editors, and work pro-actively behind the scenes to prevent harassment and media intrusion. We can provide pre-publication advice to journalists and the public and have published advice on dealing with media attention after a death".

Emily Altaner - Charlotte McPherson Eleni Stella

I am going to have three main models; one will be the cover model who I will then base my double page spread on. The other two models that I will be using will be for the contents page. The image at the top is my inspiration for the cover image, I've chosen to do something like this as I think t will give my magazine a edgy look which will be good for this season, (dark, cold and Halloween ect). For the cover I will be using my friend Emily Altaner. The other two models will be Charlotte McPherson and Eleni Stella; they will be in the contents page. I will have Charlotte in business ware, I've chosen the Next advert as a similar idea to mine and Eleni will model similar to the image with the girl with her hair spread around her. With these ideas I am hoping to appeal to my target audience of women aged 18 26 and when I have added the contents I am hoping men will also find it interesting; I am hoping to get the men aged 18 24 involved in my magazine too. Showing the images as they are I will expects the people to have a social grade of B2 which I am happy with.

This image is going to be very similar to what I am going to have for the cover on my magazine. The cover model on my magazine is going to be my friend Emily. As she will e my cover model due to this picture; I will then base the main article on her. Due to the picture being a little on the dark side I will have her article about her new fashion brand of clothing. She is going to be playing the role of an artist who's released her new album along with a fashion collection. I will be interview her new collection mainly however I will still have a brief discussion about her music career. I think this is a good idea, as it will target both of my audiences for music and fashion. Alternatively, if I was to choose to have this image as the cover of my magazine I will be using my model Charlotte, this image will give a sense of dominance and probably give a fashionable yet professional look for my magazine which is what I really want however I love the idea of the previous image as its different and a little more out there; but is that what I want my magazine to be like? If I was to use Charlotte the topic would be different, It would just be based on fashion, maybe starting her new career as a model or even a new uncovered fashion designer? I will choose which one I am doing once I have seen all of the images after I've have my photo shoots.

Min 1000 Words
Hello and welcome, today we have _________ for our exclusive one on one interview with the new upcoming model who will be introducing her new fashion collection today, with some of her own takes of her inspirational fashion designers, youll only find it here with ARDOR. What can you tell us about yourself that people dont already know? Ive just turned 18; I live in London where I study Law, Physiology, Sociology and English Literature. I love these subjects but my real passion is my modelling and fashion career. As much as I'd want to be a full time fashion designer, I promised myself that I would finish my education before I make any sudden decisions about my career. I also would like to go to University where I will study Law. As you can see from my fashion collections, I love the sophisticated look; I use it in all of my collections as well as modelling this look. Describe your average day to day routine? This is something that all my friends moan about; I take forever in the morning! Usually I wake up at 6am on a weekday, ill usually have a shower then I ll do my makeup and choose what I will be wearing that day. Theres not a lot that I have to do in the morning, (except homework that I havent done when its due for that day) I just like to take my time, and if that mean I take three hours then so be it. When I go out for the night I will take even longer but thats just part of the fun. When Im modelling I can usually be ready in an hour surprisingly, mainly because someone else it getting me ready though ha-ha. Tell me something about your greatest achievement so far? Im hoping for it to be when I graduate from university but at the moment its most defiantly getting my foot in the modelling industry, its so hard to get in but once youre in, you can only get better. It was only a year ago when I actually got into the modelling business and already I should be releasing my first fashion collection this summer 2012. I wouldnt have been able to have done this without the support of my friends. They have all played their part in staying up really late helping me create designs or even help put them together for me. So a big thank you to them. If you could model for any fashion label, who would it be? Burberry, without a doubt. Burberry is probably my favourite fashion designer, for the past eight years Ive idolized them, its because of Burberry I want to become a model. Ever since I was 12 I wanted to be modelling the new Burberry collections, its probably one of my biggest ambitions so far. Tell us how you got into this industry, was it hard? Yes, its the hardest thing Ive done so far. It takes a load of determination and focus; And even though its modelling, you assume you dont need any qualifications, make sure you dont just drop out of school, you still need to work hard and doing the subjects I do at the moment have really helped mw become the person I am today. Because just think if I dropped out of school and I didnt get into modelling Id be left with nothing. Theres also a link on my website about how I got to where I am now and that tells you a lot about how to become the best in the game. www.MacModeling.co.uk/mystory If you could give anyone wanting to become a model how to succeed, what would you tell them? Like I said earlier about it being hard to get into the game, you really do have to try your best to work hard at school/college. But I would tell them the truth, its not easy but it really will pay off when you become well known. Just think you only need one person to discover you and once they have your life is set. You can then be who you want or do what you want. Im releasing my very own fashion collection and Ive only been in the industry for two years. Good luck guys! What was your most memorable photo shoot? Ohh my most memorable photo shoot would defiantly be the one where I modelled for Jack Wills; not only was the setting amazing but so where all the members of the team there too. There was I think five of us on the shoot that day and we all had such an amazing day, it was set in a huge house with a pool party going on, it was really awkward at the beginning as some of the shots where a little naughty with hardly any clothes but the images we produced were amazing. Plus to top that perfect day off I got give a whole new wardrobe of clothes as a thank you! I actually had to buy another wardrobe just do I could fit all of my new clothes in, one of the best days ever! What would you say are your favourite hobbies? I actually love studying law, I just find it so interesting; we always have discussions in class where we pretend a friend has been sent to court and we have to do a role play to prove their innocence, its so fun, I love the arguments we have with each other to get around the law, the good thing with these arguments are that they arent aggressive and at the end of the day were all best friends. Apart from that I love dance; I go to dance groups every week, I have done since I was about four. Its a great way to meet new people or exercise plus its helped me keep in shape for modelling, so its a great bonus. Where would you like to be in 3years time? Ohh I will be 21 then, looking forward to that. If all goes to plan I would have just graduated from university. So then I will be free to go into full time modelling and if Im being honest in three years time Ill probably low down my modelling career so I can give attention to designing new fashion collections. My aim is to have started my next fashion collection by then. If its possible, I would actually love to maybe start in a few movies, I probably wont have the chance but it would be a dream come true if I could. If you werent a model, what would you want to be instead?
