An online community is a virtual community that exists online whose members enable its existence through taking part in membership ritual. An online community can take the form of an information system where anyone can post content, such as a Bulletin board system or one where only a restricted number of people can initiate posts, such as Weblogs.

A blog is website or a part of a website. Blogs are maintained by the user with regular entries of commentary, events, graphics, video, etc.

A social network is a social structure made up of individuals /(organizations) called "nodes", which are tied (connected) by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.

Multimedia sharing is sharing the pictures, videos, audios, etc over the internet using various sites.

RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated workssuch as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and videoin a standardized format

Microblogging is a broadcast medium in the form of blogging. A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically smaller in both actual and aggregate file size. Microblogs "allow users to exchange small elements of content such as short sentences, individual images, or video links".

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS PICTURES OF OFFICE EVENTS TO SHOW OFFICE CULTURE VIDEOS USED HELPS IN EXPLAINING CONCEPTS EXAMPLE: WORLD MUSIC SUPPLY .COM BUILDS A STRONG ONLINE COMMUNITY

Many small businesses do some sort of offline advertising, whether it be radio, print, or cable. Social marketing allows a business to extend their offline sales pitch. Including your Facebook Page or blog URL in offline ads act as social proof, inviting potential consumers to see your community and increase trust in your business. Not only can integrating online and offline advertising help the conversion process, but it can also help build your community. Introducing potential consumers to your social profiles means they may join your community now and buy later.

ONE WAY TO EXCITE THE COMMUNITY IS TO COLLECTIVELY DO SOMETHING TO CREATE CONTEST OR GIVE AN EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNT EX: PUBLISH AN ARTICLE THAT GETS MOST COMMENTS IN ORDER TO WIN DISCOUNTS ARE ALSO A GREAT WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOUR COMMUNITY.BY GIVING COUPONS YOU ARE REWARDING THEM THAT YOU ARE NOT ONLY A BRAND TO ENGAGE WITH BUT ALSO TO BUY FROM
Example: NetFirms.com NetFirms.com decided to make it easier to register a domain by allowing people to do it via Twitter. Those who participated or spread the word by tweeting were also entered into a prize drawing.

YOUR SITE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN LOCAL BUSSINESS DIRECTORIES CHECK YOUR COMPETITORS YOUR BUSSINESS HAS BEEN ADDED TO GOGGLE MAPS USING LOCAL BUSSINESS CENTRES ADD ALL THE INFORMATION AND UPDATE NEWS EXAMPLE:Bella Napoli is a small pizzeria in New York
that has done a great job of making sure they appear in as many local searches as possible.

4 WAYS SOCIAL MEDIA IS CHANGING BUSSINESS

COMPANIES USE TWITTER OR FACEBOOK TO SOCIALLY INTERACT WITH PEOPLE MOST POPULAR TEND TO POST LESS ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS OR SERVICES AND MORE ABOUT THINGS THAT HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS GET TO KNOW THE PEOPLE AND PERSONALITY OF A COMPANY THEIR GOAL IS LESS ABOUT SELLING AND MORE ENGAGING WITH PEOPLE

INSTEAD OF SPENDING MILLONS OF DOLLARS ON TRADITIONAL CAMPAIGNS,SMALL ACTS SUCH AS ADVERTISING ON SOCIAL MEDIA CAN BE MORE VALUABLE CAN TELL THEIR EXPEREINCES WITH HELP OF SOCIAL MEDIA LIKE FACEBOOK OR TWITTER LOIC LE MEUR CEO TOLD MOST IMPORTANT JOB IS TO REPLY PEOPLE QUERYS ON FACEBOOK OR TWITTER ABOUT THE PRODUCT

RATHER THAN MAKING CONTROLLED AND POLISHED IMAGE EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE GIVEN FREEDOM TO BE THEMSELVES IN ONLINE SPACES GIVE EMPLOYEES MEANS NECESSARY TO BE HUMAN BEINGS THAT CAN PUT A FRIENDLY FACE ON CORPORATION NBC NEWSCASTER TALKS ABOUT WOMENS RIGHT ON TWITTER

TO ENGAGE WITH CUSTOMERS IT IS NO

LONGER ENUOGH TO HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESSES TODAY THEY WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE HELP OF TWITTER OR FACEBOOK IF PEOPLE HAVE AN ISSUE THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE COMPANY WITH WHOM THEY CAN COMMUNICATE WITH THE HELP OF SOCIAL MEDIA

WHY SET UP A SOCIAL MED

Markets are conversations Markets are getting smarter, more informed, more organized. People in networked markets have figured out that they get far better information and support from one another than from vendors. The networked market knows more than companies do about their own products. Companies that assume online markets are the same markets used to watch their ads on TV are kidding themselves. Companies that dont realize their markets are now networked person-to-person, getting smarter as a results and deeply joined in conversation are missing their best opportunity. Companies can now communicate with their markets directly. If they blow it, it could be their last chance. Companies that do not belong to a community of discourse will die.

the conversations will happen !

For a better control of your brand, you must participate in the conversations Once you trigger a conversation, you should not leave it

Reach the right people !

` ` `

Long tail effect Reach the small communities on the web Connect with people Reach the people where they are Keep brand positioning Keep brand awareness to relay offline marketing campaigns Generate more traffic Enlarge the targeted segment

Does not cost a $ !

No money investment is required No external company needs to be engaged it will just cost the time you will be ready to invest !

The New Business Paradigm in the Age of Social Media In this new era of social media, companies are asked to be increasingly transparent and personal. Of course, traditional advertising and press releases will still have their place, but social sites such as Twitter and Facebook allow a whole new type of communication to take place that has previously been unknown to most businesses. Possibly more important for businesses than getting a large number of followers on social media sites, is following through on the opportunity to forge more genuine and direct connections with their customers. Businesses that choose not to adapt to the new culture will be at an increasing disadvantage, as their customers slowly build personal relationships with their competitors. We are now in the age of open communication, engaged dialogue, and transparency and business success may now have less to do with the size of ad budgets, but on the quality of interactions with customers.
